A student and/or a staff members dress and appearance shall not be such that it causes disruption or distracts others from the educational process or creates a health or safety problem. In addition to the following JFCA Poli- cy, students and staff must comply with specific building dress regu- lations below. The only exceptions to these rules are approved gym suits or school activities uniforms. Students and staff must comply with these regulations or disciplinary action will be taken. Students and Staff will be required to dress appropriately for all school-sponsored activities. 1. No hats or head coverings including hoods and bandanas are allowed in the building except for religious or health reasons. 2. No see through clothing (including mesh). 3. Shorts, skirts, skorts, holes in jeans and dress lengths must be no more than 3.5 inches above knee. (length of credit card/I.D. badge). 4. Upper and lower garments must meet at all times. No midriffs are to be exposed. 5. Halter tops, tank tops and spaghetti strap tops or dresses are prohibited. Spaghetti straps may be worn but only over or un- der other presentable clothing. Top straps must be minimum of 3.5 inches. (length of a credit card/I.D. badge) 6. No cut off shirts, or T-shirts with sides cut out or jerseys above the waist. 7. No low cut blouses that are revealing or indecent. 8. No spurs or metal accessories that could be harmful to persons or properties. Chains or spiked jewelry is unacceptable. Pierced body ornaments are restricted to the ear, or must be covered. Tattoos need to be covered. These coverings must be brought from home. (ex. Band-Aids) 9. Clothing with inappropriate or obscene language, T-shirts with suggestive advertisement, lewd or suggestive material, mention of drugs, sex, alcohol, tobacco or sexually offensive pictures or language is not permitted. (No Double –Meanings”) 10. Pants must be worn with the waistband above the hips at all times. 11. No spandex or excessively tight clothing. 12. No undergarments visible. 13. Shoes must be worn at all times. 14. Hair should be kept neat, clean, and reasonably styled. No distracting colors and/or styles. 15. No sleeping attire or related items, i.e. pajamas, blankets, pil- lows, house slippers or gowns. RULE OF THUMB: IF YOU ARE UNSURE THAT A PARTICULAR ARTICLE OF CLOTHING MEETS THE DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS, IT PROBABLY DOESNT. It is also to en- sure the continued safety and welfare of the students and staff members. The school principal has the authority to interpret these regulations in cases where judgment is called for and to enforce com- pliance with them in accordance with ap- plicable Code of Conduct provisions. Peterstown Middle School has instituted the 2.5”x 3.5” Credit Card/I.D. Badge standard in interpreting the student dress code. A 2.5 inch by 3.5 inch credit card/ I.D. badge will be used to determine inap- propriate student dress. Low-cut shirts and/or blouses cannot reveal skin lower than 3.5 inches below the clavicle (collar bone). Shorts, pants, skorts, dresses, and skirts cannot reveal skin higher than 3.5 inches above the top of the knee cap. The waistband of pants, shorts, and skirts can be no lower than 2.5 inches below the belly button, continuing com- pletely around the waist. Shirts and tops must have a minimum shoulder strap width of three and a half inches.
