PROPAGANDA
-German Politician who wrote Propaganda speeches
- "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
- Joseph Goebbels

BENITO MUSSOLINI
“…must be clear and regular on the outside, and let the passing eye deduce nothing of what is going on inside. It must be poker-faced to the point of immobility; the mask must not slip. No surviving Fascist building does this better than the Palace of Italian Civilization at EUR.” (Hughes, 105)

A BUILDING IN EUR, A CITY OUTSIDE OF ROME
“Twenty-five years later, most new American university campuses, particularly in Southern California, would have at least one building that looked like it (Palace at EUR). …the reigning style for cultural centres and other buildings emblematic of civic high mindedness: the main ingredients of the architecture of State Power, as imagined by the totalitarian hacks of our century, became known as the Architecture of Democracy when they crossed the Atlantic in the 1950s.” (Hughes, 105)
