Bandwagon Follow along with the crowd Find the "winning team" and join them No one wants to be left out Victory is inevitable if so many people join Bandwagon
Card Stacking (stacking the deck) Presents only positive information Leaves out any information that can be seen
as negative about the product Very effective in convincing the public Politicians
Virtue Words (Glittering Generalization) Make broad statements Relates to an idea that people value Love, wisdom, happiness, peace
Name-calling Uses negative words or words with negative
emotions to make you dislike something Seen frequently in politics Examples:
Using religion (Jew, Muslim, Catholic) Using social status (elite, rich, terrorist) Using ideas (radical, conservative, Commie) Using race
Common Man (plain folks) Tries to convince you that the average person
agrees with or wants this product Speaks directly to certain people in a certain
area Relates to "good old boys"
Oversimplification Shows you simple answers to a complex
situation Your only choice is between good and evil Problems arise because sometimes there is no
simple solution Very few things in life are clear-cut good or
evil
Testimonials (star appeal) Quotations or endorsements given by
celebrities or experts Used in advertising and politics Examples:
Hair products Drinks Clothes
Appeal to fear If you are afraid of something, you will do
anything to avoid it. These techniques play on the fears of
individuals as well as groups Seen in WWII ads
Sex Appeal Uses attractive people to sell the products . Often seen in beer commercials or smoking
commercials Makes people think that they will look like
this if using the product.

to use or buy. The product can be anything, even outlandish or
crazy things. You must use at least three types of propaganda that
we have talked about. Must have a poster and any other visual aides you
need to sell your product.
