Pronouns: Subjective Case

ELACC6L1a: Ensure that pronouns are in the proper case (subjective, objective, possessive)

This relates to writing because you MUST make sure that you are using pronouns in the correct places in your writing.

Subjective Case

Subject Pronouns are used as the SUBJECT of a sentence. (We consider them to be in the subjective case)

Ex. She went to the museum. Ex. We won the baseball tournament!

The subject pronouns are: • I, You, He, She, It, We, They

THESE ARE THE ONLY PERSONAL PRONOUNS THAT CAN BE SUBJECTS!

Subject Pronouns

Subject Pronouns can be simple subjects: Ex. He bought ice cream for his sister.

Ex. She likes strawberry ice cream the best!

Subject Pronouns In Compound Subjects

Subject Pronouns can be part of compound subjects. (Get them right!)

Ex. Lucy and I went to a movie.

Ex. You and I seem to agree with each other.

Ex. He and Jasper are going hunting.

Nominative Case

When a subject pronoun comes after a linking verb, we call it the nominative case.

Ex. The greatest singer is she!Ex. The best swimmers in history are they.

This rule is very unusual to see!
