L.E.D. - Lights of the Future

The Lighting Issues• High Energy Costs • Employee Health / Productivity• Carbon Footprint / Global Warming• High Maintenance Costs • Availability Issues• Compliance with government regulations • Budget Restraints

Energy Usage

Lights are the 2nd largest user of energy in commercial buildings.

Energy Efficiency = Lower Energy Cost

Traditional light bulbs and tubes utilize less than 25% of the energy used to convert energy into light, the balance is burned off in the way of heat.

GE Ecolux T8 4' Tube 25W 1860 12,000 113.2°

With traditional light bulbs and tubes unused electricity is converted into heat requiring additional energy to run air conditioning to counter the added heat in a room or building. Depending on the climate this could add up to substantial additional costs for each bulb or tube compared to LED lighting.

The Issue – Carbon Dioxide

U.S. Carbon Dioxide – Emissions, By Source

Part of the cause – Wasted energy

In the US, one kilowatt-hour of electricity will cause 1.34 pounds (610 g) of CO2

emission. Assuming the average light bulb is on for 10 hours a day, one 40-watt incandescent bulb will cause 196

pounds (89 kg) of CO2 emission per year. The 6-watt LED equivalent will only cause 30 pounds (14 kg) of CO2 over the

same time span. A building’s carbon footprint from lighting can be reduced by

85% by exchanging all incandescent bulbs for new L.E.D.’s.

Carbon Footprint ConcernsU.S. Energy Consumption By Source

Lower Maintenance Cost

With a life span of 50,000 hours or better LED lights last up to 5 times the lifeSpan of comparable Florescent tubes. The results are fewer maintenance hours used changing bulbs.
