Africa’s population is 1 Billion in 2014 and is expected to double in the year 2050. It has the highest birth and fertility rates worldwide. Housing remains the main need for millions in the continent. It is witnessed at present and foreseen in the future that there is a huge demand for housing.

More than 40% of the total population is living in cities. This percentage is higher than India’s 30% and slightly lower than China’s 45%. If African countries keep the present migration rate of 3.5% for the years to come, it is expected that we will have over 400 Million more Africans moving to cities in the next 10 – 20 years.

AfricAAt the moment, there are about 50 cities in Africa with over 1 Million populations. With the current growing migration rate, the number of cities with over 1 Million populations will reach 65 in 2030.

As per the African Development Bank, Africa’s economic growth is reaching 5.2% in 2014 compared to 4.5% in 2013 and 4.2% in 2012. The Sub- Saharan economies are foreseen to be among the fastest growing in the world.

Construction is one of the most dynamic and active sectors within the Egyptian economy. It counts to 7% of the total GDP. The sector is combined of 31 state owned and 36,000 private owned contracting firms.

Investments in the sector are foreseen to reach USD 7.2 Billion in 2015.

The population in Egypt reached 86.5 Million in June 2014. It is ranked as the third largest growing population in Africa after Nigeria and Ethiopia. Egypt population is expected to reach 142 Million in 2050.

Due to this growing population as well as urbanization rates, Egypt is considered one of the most steadily growing markets in terms of real estate and residential construction with a need mainly for low and middle income housing, where the country is short by 3.5 Million units. Taking in consideration that 29% of the population is under 40 years of age and 50% is under 19 years of age, we will realize that this shortage is growing steadily every year.

EgyptInvestments in the real estate sector have continuously increased from EGP 7.9 Billion in 2001/02 up to EGP 31.8 Billion in 2012/13 with 27.5% growth rate.

Average annual GDP growth of 4.2% is predicted by BMI until 2015. With the population increasing to a forecast 88.2 million people by 2015, GDP per capita is expected to rise by 70%, reaching USD 4,957.

ConCeptProjex Africa embraces the future of the construction industry, where the key domestic and international key players in each of the building material sectors are illustrating not only their latest developments but also, addressing tomorrow’s technology problems and solutions on a platform of more than 10,000 sqm.

In simple words, Projex Africa is launched not only to showcase the Building Materials Industry of TODAY but also to address TOMORROW’s problems and solutions.

Green Buildings, Innovations, Future, are the main key topics which Projex Africa will address to his exhibitors and visitors through illustrations, seminars, forums and other.

Green BuIldInGsMeaningGreen building is a structure and using process that is environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s life-cycle: from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.

The Green Building practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort.

projEx AfricAtoday & tomorrow As per an article by Amber Arneson in Environmental News Network Magazine in July 2013, the world’s population will hit 9 Billion in 2050. 80% of this figure will be living in urban communities. Many of these people are spending a lot of time indoors. For example, in the US, research indicates that people spend 90% of their time indoors.

Buildings can have concentrations of some pollutants that are two to five times higher than typical outdoor concentrations. These pollutants can come in the form of aging infrastructure, portable air conditioners, poor ventilation or other forms.

More buildings will be needed to meet the increasing demand for high indoor environmental quality (IEQ) for growing populations, especially in developing nations and urban areas.

According to recent reports, green buildings are being increasingly viewed as a standard best practice among architects, engineers and contractors.

As per McGrow Hill Construction Market Report, percentage of architects, contractors, engineers, building owners and consultants worldwide, who are focusing on constructing green buildings in more than 60% of their

projects have jumped from 13% in 2009 to 28% in 2012 and this is foreseen to reach 51% by 2015.

One of the most remarkable conclusions of the study is that these growing percentages are not concentrated in developing countries only but prevailing all over the world including African countries where it is growing more than triple in South Africa for example.

Four days of Mega Construction & Building Material events under one roofProjex Africa coincides with MS Africa & Middle East – The International Trade Fair Stone Design, Technology, Earthmoving and Building Machinery – organized by the renowned Italian fair organizer Veronafiere in joint venture with the two well reputed Egyptian organizers, Art Line for Organizing International Exhibitions and Conferences & Egyptian Exporters Association – ExpoLink.

MS stands for Marmomacc – the biggest worldwide trade fair in the field of Natural Stones + Samoter – the third biggest worldwide trade fair in the field of Mining, Earthmoving and Building Heavy machinery.

Projex & MS are aiming to turn Egypt into a regional hub within Africa & Middle East in the various fields of construction and building materials the natural stone in terms of technology, production and trade.

The International Earth-Movingand Building Machinery Exhibition

Marmomac Stone Academy

Veronafiere is the only trade exhibition organizer that provides specific continuing professional development courses to architects, recognized by the most prestigious international professional associations, and has been doing so continuously for the last 15 years.

Veronafiere became an American Institute of Architects (AIA) continuing education provider in 1998, offeringa four-day course for US-based architects, held during Marmomacc, on designing with natural stone. The AIA has over 80,000 members in the in the US and around the world. To preserve their eligibility for AIA membership and their state licenses, each architect must complete 18 hours of continuing education per year.

Veronafiere/Marmomacc has also been recognized as a provider of educational courses by RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects), RAIC (Royal Architectural Institute of Canada), AIA (Australian Institute of Architects), SAIA (South Africa Institute of Architects) and, more recently, MEK (Hungarian Chamber of Architects).

Veronafiere’s course is offered to help architects learn advanced techniques in use of marble, granite and other stone materials, as well as engineered stone. It is a unique combination of classroom lectures, guided architectural tours, and field trips to nearby quarries as well as stone processing facilities.

This comprehensive approach helps architects to better understand stone’s full life circle – including how marble is quarried, cut, processed, finished, selected for specific jobs and installed, using the latest technologies and products. The five-day course held each year in Verona also provides a hands-on look at the materials and machinery used in the production of engineered stone, including an overview of Appropriate design applications and the sustainable characteristics of these products. Last September, Veronafiere offered the 14th edition of the course. Starting in 2003, enrollment was expanded to include Architects form Canada, UK, India, South Africa, and – more recently Hungary and Singapore.
