Module Description/Aims:
Encourage the student to use his/her initiative
Develop the students sense of responsibility and self confidence.
Assist the students understanding of the inter-relationships between the
formal disciplines of the other subjects on the course
Teach the student the skills required in analysing, presenting and effectivelycommunicating the results, conclusions and recommendations of the project.
The student is expected to demonstrate their workshop skills in the
manufacture of a prototype or model. They are also to investigate how to
bring the product to the market place.

1 Bring about the successful completion of the project, demonstrating the
disciplines of planning, organising and managing resources and project
change control together with an investigation of the investigation of the
commercialisation of the project.
2 Have the confidence to take on the responsibility for investigating and
applying the additional learning, knowledge and resources required to bring
the project to a successful conclusion.
3 Manufacture and test a model or prototype and analyse results and propose
and implement modifications, taking safety into account.
4 Demonstrate the critical thinking and judgment with regard to the ethical
issues which arise during the project life cycle.
5 Present their work, findings and recommendations in a coherent manner and
discuss the results of the project in a professional manner.
6 Produce a professional project report which shows a reasoned development of
the project to satisfy the customer requirements or project goals set out in
PROJ71007.
Learning Strategies
The student has access to the support of a team of lecturers who have particular
subject expertise which may be of relevance to the project.
Supervised workshop practice
Support in CAD, report writing and professional project presentation using a multi-
media approach.
Enhancement of entreprenuerial skills through evaluation of the commercialisation
possibilities.

Interim Report, Final project report and presentation
Students will be provided with marking schemes for all course work in their project
handbook.
Repeat Strategy: Should the student fail both project modules (PROJ71007 and
PROJ71008) they will have to repeat the full academic year for both project subjects.
If the student fails this module only (PROJ71008), the student is required to resubmit
their work and attend a final presentation at the next available examination sitting.
