VICTOR STEINBRUEK PARK IS LOCATED ACROSS FROM THE PIKE

PLACE MARKET IN DOWNTOWN SEATTLE. IT IS ON THE SITE OF

THE WASHINGTON NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY BUILT IN 1909.

A FIRE PARTIALLY DESTROYED THE ARMORY IN 1962 AND THE

SITE WAS BOUGHT BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE IN 1968. TWO

YEARS LATER THE SITE WAS TRANSFORMED INTO A TEMPORARY

PARK. IN 1982 THE PARK WAS REDESIGNED AND TWO 50-FOOT

TOTEM POLES WERE INSTALLED. IN 1985 THE PARK WAS RE-

NAMED THE VICTOR STEINBRUECK IN HONOR OF HIS CONTRIBU-

TIONS AND RESTORATION OF THE PIKE PLACE MARKET.

THE PARK OFFERS RESTROOMS, WI FI, AND A GREAT VIEW OF

ELLIOTT BAY. THERE IS A LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC AROUND THE

PARK AND THE THREE-WAY STOP IN FRONT OF THE PARK WHICH

CAUSES THE VEHICLE TRAFFIC TO BE SLOW MOVING.

SEATTLE HAS A MEDITTERANEAN CLIMATE WITH WET-WINTERS

AND DRY-SUMMERS. SEATTLE HAS AN AVERAGE OF 226 DAYS

OF RAIN A YEAR WITH MILD SUMMERS.

My master plan for this site is to flattenout the landscape. I will design a one story

building with plenty of natural light and high

ceilings for art studios. Students will have a

place to go to continue to do their art

projects and homework. A place that will hold

all the necessary equipment to finish a projectand perfect it for ones portfolio or project

turn-in. It is very important to get the commu-

nity involved and to do that we are holding art

classes for the local kids in the

neighborhood. The art classes will be taught

by AIS students who have an interest in

teaching young people about their passion. The

new site will also have a glass blowing studio

that will be rented out to local glass blowing

artists. This studio will have all of the

necessary equipment needed for a glass

blower to design and create their art.

The Santa Monica College Satellite Campus is

located at 3171 South Bundy Drive in Los Angeles and isknown as the Bundy Campus. It is a four story buildingwith a view of the Paci c Ocean. There is free parking and

beautiful scenery. The Bundy Campus houses the nursing program, teacher-training program, coninuing and

community education classes and general-educationcourses.

The Art Institute of Atlanta has openeda satellite campus at 1West Court Square inDecatur, Georgia. The campus is located inthe Metro area of Atlanta and will be closer to

potential students in the Newton and RockdaleCounties. The current site is a park that is across from the PikePlace Market and has a beautiful view of the water. The

location is is a few blocks away from the main ArtInstitute of Seattle Campus. The site is a great location for tourists and walk through traf c. The site will still haveviewing areas for the public and the building will nottake up the entire site. Currently a lot of homeless people

hang out and sleep at the site and the building will take upspace from that. The lack of available parking is a currentissue and will continue to be an issue for people who aredriving to the campus, however there is ampletransportation to get you to and from the campus

including bus, ferry, or taxi.
