LawMatters is an Alternate Dispute Resolution Forum which seeks to bring together, seekers of justice, providers of legal help and deliverers of justice, on a common platform in real time and seamlessly.

Presently, the legal system in India is choking itself due to:

1. An unmanageable number of cases pending at courts of various levels.2. An extremely low Lawyer per capita ratio of 0.001 (Lawyer: Non Lawyer :: 1: 1000).3. A long and confusing legal process with procedures and filings at each step.4. Inefficient use of Law Process Outsourcing services.5. Inadequacies in the quality of research.6. Lack of Knowledge about Lawyers best fit for a particular problem.7. Lack of Transparency.8. Non conducive communication in terms of Frequency & distortion.9. Inadequate participation by all stakeholders.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

It provides a platform for compoundable cases to be resolved outside of judicial proceedings in court, thereby lowering the burden of courts and cutting short the time involved in the process.

LawMatters bridges the knowledge gap through a transparent, crowd sourced voting system. It provides a discovery platform for clients to search for and research about lawyers who are best fit for their unique legal requirements. It provides tools to enhance the productivity of lawyers and paralegal services while addressing inadequacies in research and the inefficiencies in communication, thereby increasing the participation of all stakeholders.

Market & Industry Environment - Need

The Justice Delivery System, in India, is teetering on the brink of breakdown. There are 31.3 million pending cases in various courts. The crux of the problem may be understood from the point of view of the following stakeholders:-A. Public/Clients:- The cases are Snail Paced, the work flow is Inefficient. The access to Justice

is limited. Clients place reliance only on word of mouth. Finally, Right and Liabilities decided by the courts are not enforcedREASON:- OVERBURDENED JUDICIARY AND OPACITY

B. Lawyers:- Lawyers do not have access to Junior Lawyers, Legal talents, Resources, Students. Lawyers cannot retain Junior Lawyers over the years. Therefore, Timely and Quality Research gets affectedREASON:- 1 MILLION LAWYERS CATERING TO 1.3 BILLION PEOPLE

C. Law Students:- Limited exposure to Ground Realities. No avenues to make an impact in the System. No recognition accorded to Good talents. Changing careers induced by lack of opportunities. REASON:- FOCUS LIMITED TO TOP TIER LAW FIRMS AND TOP LAW SCHOOLS RATHER THAN TOUCHING THE GRASSROOTS EXCLUDES 60,000 STUDENTS FROM THE SYSTEM.

At present, the system is competitive in nature, complex to understand, difficult to understand, slow to move and costly to invoke. The common man tends to avoid seeking legal recourse, and once he is involved, despairs of it.

Theoretically, every person of 25+ years of age and who has an Internet connection is a target customer (since an Adult would have a legal requirement at some point of time in his life). By 2018, the estimated internet users in India would cross 550 million*, of which 54% would be above 25 years of age. Mobile users would be 70-80% of the whole population. This gives a base of 297 million people. Even assuming that 50% of this population have a legal requirement**, the target segment works out to almost 150 million users. Some other statistics are:

*Source: IAMAI & BCG report [email protected]** Common legal requirements include Registration of property, registration of association/ company, registration of marriage (and divorce petition), sale deeds, Family/property disputes, RTI applications, Cheating, Cheque Dishonor, Drunk driving , motor vehicle cases, consumer forum cases, wrongful termination of contract, recovery of money etc

Value Proposition, Key Services & Differentiation

LawMatters does the following:A. Alternate Dispute Resolution System (ADRS)• Courts handle only the most complex cases and serious

offences, increasing its own effectiveness.• Embattled litigants can finally hope for speedy resolution,

arrived at consensually• No more breakdown of relationships• Adverse effects of the Lawyer-Lay Population ratio is

countered (ADRS need not be lawyers). • Has legal validity, sanctity and even blessing (Arbitration

and Conciliation Act, 1996).

B. Bringing Transparency into the system• Search tool which injects unprecedented levels of

transparency and brings alive Right to Information.• Lets people choose the professional who is best suited to

their unique needs by assigning values to the performance based parameters and skill sets of their choice.

• The conventional "Best" to "Worst" and other avatars of Bell Curve listing are done away with.

LawMatters does the following:C. Boosts efficiency through tools and collaboration•Makes available all services ancillary and tangential to Legal Services, such as Medico Legal

Experts and Forensics experts, Law Professors, Colleges, Stationary, Books and Clothes, to Lawyers & Clients.• A "Virtual Office" for Lawyers & Paralegal Professionals, Law Students and Clients to, among

other things, Connect and Collaborate across societal hierarchies. Senior Lawyers can collaborate with freelancers and Law students, and vice versa, in Real Time & Seamlessly. • Research Intensive: Any person may post a legal research question and invite well researched

pieces of work according his requirements from the genre of users of his choice. He may do this by offering Letter of Recognition, or Employment/internship opportunities or money as incentives for the best pieces of work chosen by him.

D. Increases stakeholder participation: • Letting People, PEERS, Clients and Students play a role in the Justice System and give back to

the community, through a Dynamic, Crowd-sourced, and transparent "voting/vouching" (not rating) platform. • This voting system works in unison with the data generated from the professional's own

performance & collaborative work on the platform; and Information available through Public Information Portals.
