Business overview

Company AlfaPro was established and developed in 2006. Main specialization is IT outsourcing and creation of IT solutions for firms. The Alfapro’s team consists of 10 people, administering more than 90 servers and 500 computers at more than 50 clients around whole Slovakia. Project Wavie started in 2014 with an idea of hand gestures controlled light switch. There has been no other product with similar handling available on the market. This idea had a big potential as it provided users not only with esthetic experience but also the practical usage of light switch functions. The team consists of 5 skilled guys ready to bring wavie to life. The head of the team is Matej Cerny, founder, financial and product manager. His long-term friend Roman Legindi is co-founder and sales manager. Hardware and testing is done by Oto Wanzel, technical manager. Public reations are held by Marek Soth, PR manager. The newest member is Maros Slenker, assistant manager.

Product Wavie

Definition: Wavie is a programmable, touch-less and hand gestures handled controller with a dimmer for light or other devices. Functions: Wavie can independently manage two light circuits - it is a fully-fledged substitution for a double light switch. The light can be turned on and off by gradual lighting up and down, which reduces the shock caused by sudden sharp light. Wavie can also turn the light off automatically after a few hours. Wavie offers a function of a special holiday mode, which simulates lights usage and thus increases security. Since there is no physical contact with the light switch, everything remains clean so there is no risk of transfer any bacteria by touching the light switch. The Cover of the light switch: The cover is made of cut glass attached to a high-quality metal frame by neodym magnets and it is very easily replacable. It is offered in various color designs of the glass to match the color of any place. It can be engraved with almost any image from a company logo to a personal symbol. Innovations: New models which will provide access to new markets for the company and attract new customers. In the case of Wavie, there is an opportunity for realization of product versions, e.g. version without the dimmer, which would be more affordable.

Wavie Next Generation (NG) Definition: Touch-less controleer of the supported types of intelligent bulbs as well as control of two light circuits with regular bulbs. Functions: The communication is performed by WIFI connection. Wavie 2 is configured by mobile application. It communicates with a user by OLED display and is controlled by hand gestures or mobile application. Wavie 2 enables the user to control also color light modes. Connection with the IFTTT server provides option to connect the light control device with other intelligent devices. Wavie 2 will be able to update the software by its connection to the internet. Innovations: New functions like control by any remote controller, control by sound (e.g. simple sounds like clap of hands, whistle, etc.). Integrating various sensors into the light switch (temperature, pressure, humidity…) or using it as a controller of different devices.

Competition analysis Wavie

• Chinese company LIVOLO: Light switches use touch technology with electronic light control. The design is like ours (a glass cover). Advantage is the price of the product (basic model from 10 USD), technologies of distant control included (however no Wifi and Bluetooth). Disadvantage is safety of the product and missing mobile applications.

• Capacity controllers of light and other devices (touch-less devices): A representative producent is the company ANIGMO. They belong to the higher price level over 30 Euro. Disadvantage is functionality (only one light circuit can be switched on and off).

• The Canadian company UBIQUILUX: Product provides comprehensive touch-less control through infra technology and dimming of multiple light circuits. Disadvantage is the way of manipulation, which is not comfortable (the gestures required are not natural) and its price of around 200 USD.

Wavie NG • Wink Relay Touchscreen Controller: Contains touch-less display serving for control and two

programmable touch buttons. The product contains operating system with applications and provides control over various devices. It is necessary to install it into double installation US box, it requires neutral conductor in the switch for its function and it is not controllable by hand gestures. The price is 99 USD.

• Most of larger producents (GE, Philips, Lutron, Belking…): Sell remote controllers with installation frame to wall, which are powered by rechargeable batteries, and can be carried around. There are also light switches that are powered by electrical wiring and communicate with bulbs by some of the wireless technologies. Disadvantage is the necessity of neutral conductor in the switch and absence of display. Their price is around 50–90 USD.

Marketing mix 4P:

Wavie

Product Developed under its own brand. There is also an option to brand the product under partner's brand

and thus use their sale channels. It is possible to replace the defective piece in case of malfunction. Uniqueness of handling brings a high competitive advantage and prestige for the customer. Possible places of usage are in business (promotion places), at home (modern interiers), in hotels (new high-end design element), also in hospitals, toilets and laboratories (protection against bacteria).

Price Based on the calculation of production costs with an option to reduce the costs and thus decrease the

price of the item. Product belongs to luxury goods. At the time, its price is about 100 – 150 Euro (tax included), while the aim is to reach selling price under 100 Euro.

Promotion The partners providing sale support to the producent will be primarily responsible for marketing

activities at the end customers, while there will be various sale promotion activities distributed in the partner network.

The goal of the marketing in the area of partner support is raising the knowledge about the product. This support will be performed by means of electronic communication: Web page (wavie.eu), Search engines (Google Adwords), Social networks (primarily Facebook) and Demonstration (specialized shops). Public relations (PR):

Directed to creation of blogs and their promotion through social networks. Benefits are the rise of awerenes of the target group about the product and creation of new partner relations (both supplier and customer). Promotion of video content on YouTube. Several interesting videos about the product were created, which are used for propagation of the product in the role of promotion videos on YouTube.

Place Cooperation with partners responsible for sale limited to one or more countries, to ensure knowledge

about the local market due the specifics of individual European markets. The partners can be warehouses, hobbie or electronics shop as well as small businesses, e.g. light studios or interior designers.

Selling through sales channels of majority producer and seller of switches and wall plugs in Europe under their brand (Schneider Electric, Legrand, etc.). Purchases of higher extent are expected, while keeping the minimal margin to cover the production costs on zero basis and advantage of minimalization of costs.

Selling through own electronic channel: eshop and electronic markets (eBay with localization to individual countries). Maximalization of margin is expected – with minimal purchase. In case of emarkets, the margin will be minimalized. Covering the rest of sales channels.

Wavie NG

Product The new product will meet all the mentioned characteristics. The main and the only difference will be

its design. Wavie NG will not contain replacable glass covers. It will be supplied with a glass cover.

Price The estimated price of the new product should be 150–200 USD (tax included). In regards to usability

and functionality, we move from the luxury products to the area of common technical innovation products, where a set of smart bulbs costs 100 – 200 USD.

Promotion Existing customers, who already own some of the supported smart bulbs. Developer companies

providing applications for mobile devices to control smart bulbs will serve as the main advertisement channel to place our advertisement. The second option of promotion is emailing to the users of mobile applications for smart bulbs control.

Following channels will be used as support sales channels (order by importance): Search engines ( Google Adwords), YouTube ( promotion of the product video), Social networks…

Pre-sales activity is planned for period of 6 months with the estimated budget up to 10 000 Euro. The goal is to approach 300 000 potential clients with estimated 3% of them providing the email contact, which makes 9 000 contacts. We expect that 10% of the contacts will use the discount, which would generate sales in amount of 900 pieces during introduction of the product to the market. We expect higher success rate due to targeting the exactly specified group of customers.

Place Primarily electronic means of sale. The main goal during the introduction of the product to the market

is to sale through the own eshop, or to use of available emarkets (eBay, AliExpress). After this step, the distribution of the product through local partners is possible.

Covers Covers are made from glass and provided in selected colors. The cover is attached to the touchless light switch by magnets allowing an easy replacement of covers anytime. Custom black and white image (company logo) can be engraved on the cover according to customer requirements.
