Project: Oldham Town Hall
I worked with Ornate Interiors for approximately 13 months on a very challenging project for Oldham Council, the projectwas the refurbishment of their old town hall building. I have nothing but praise for Ornate's approach to all aspects of theirworks including quality, safety and working collaboratively towards the programme. The works they completed were to a very high standard and were praised by both the client and the heritage officer. The professional attitude and knowledge of the management reflected throughout their company to operatives on site.
I would not hesitate in employing Ornate Interiors on similar projects in the future.

Prestigious FIS Gold Award for Ornate InteriorsThe excellence of the work done by Ornate Interiors, who have operated from premises in Pudsey for over 20 years, has been recognised with the Gold Award for Heritage Plastering in this year’s Construction Industry’s Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS) presentations. The judges considered 50 shortlisted projects across 12 categories. The Heritage Plastering Gold Award recognised the massive contribution that Ornate Interiors made to the three-year redevelopment of the derelict and endangered Grade II listed Oldham Town Hall to a cinema and restaurant complex. Ornate Interiors were awarded the ultimate accolade when the judges chose this project as the FIS Project of the Year.460 leading figures from the sector gathered at The Dorchester Hotel, London, on 5th June for the celebratory lunch at whichMiles Jupp was compere and guest speaker. The judges, Tony Pieri and Clive Perry, commented “The finished project exudesthe highest quality of workmanship, quality and ingenuity. It is simply stunning.”The project team had to solve a wide range of problems, many presented because parts of the building had been left open to theelements, key features had deteriorated beyond recognition and original features were missing, but others because of the change in use, which meant new performance criteria had to be met, particularly in terms of acoustics. Technical issues included finding ways of reducing the weight of features and alternatives to fixing them.
The project brief included lime plastering onto masonry walls, lath and lime plastering to ceilings and the reproductionof ornate plaster mouldings on staircases and in 20 rooms. All new mouldings were manufactured in fibrous plaster, including cornices, fluted corbels, beam ceilings, columncapitals, lighting troughs, ceiling roses and roundels. The Grenfell Tower disaster and subsequent investigationshave exposed the need for a culture change across all sectors of the Construction industry. The FIS is determined to lead in promoting the highest standards in project management and delivery with their Product, Process and People initiative, which guarantees competence in every aspect and at every stage. In the judges’ opinion the Oldham Town Hall Project “epitomises what FIS is all about: precision, dedication and a desire to deliver a top quality finished product”. That is sometestimonial for the time-served expertise, technical knowledge and creativity of the team at Ornate Interiors.Ornate Interiors Contracts Manager, Jim Dodd, commented “I knew that if we got this project right, using the combined skills we have within our team, we could create a lasting legacy for the people of Oldham to enjoy for many generations to come. As with most projects, it was not plain sailing but we dug deep into our skill base to overcome problems and everyoneat Ornate Interiors is proud to have won the accoladeof best project in the UK.”
Project: Oldham Town Hall
I was really pleased that Ornate Interiors was appointed as the preferred plastering contractor for the heritage packageon this project.
I knew that if we got this project right, using all our combined skillsthat we have within our team that we could leave a lasting legacy for the client and the people of Oldham and one that could showcase our expertise to a wider audience.
Undertaking this restoration as contracts manager gave me great personal pleasure in seeing the building being put back together as it used to be.
It was, as with most projects not plain sailing, when the old courtroom was handed over to us to commence our works it was decimated, with hardly any original features being left to restore, so we dug deep into our skill base and the results we produced are there for all to see.
This project is one that all at Ornate Interiors is proud of and to be given the accolade of best project in the UK by FIS really tops off a first class project which will be enjoyedby the people of Oldham for many generations to come.

It was a pleasure to work with Ornate Interiors on the challenging Oldham Town Hall adaption to new cinema and restaurant use. The attentionto faithful detail, effective communication and understanding of the architectural intent with clever problem solving made them a pleasure to work with.
The quality of their finished work was superb and we have received a lot of positive feedback regarding the restoration component of the project and in particular the fine plasterwork to the lantern and the new ‘Courtroom’ cinema, work which is now award winning.

It is unique, there isn’t a cinema like it in the country. At the same time the setting is amazing. The fact that so many of the original features of the building have been either restored or retained is very impressive.Councillor Jean StrettonLeader, Oldham Council
