Technical Project Leadership

Overview A simulated case study is at the heart of this 5 day program. Delegates will have to use Project Management and Control tools to analyze the case study and make recommendations for future actions. They will review and improve their knowledge of Baseline Management and Earned Value Analysis, Project Tracking, Analysis and Reporting and then use and demonstrate this expertise to accomplish the assignments successfully. The intent is to have the delegates apply their knowledge by analyzing a project that is in trouble. They must determine the source and causes of the problems, what corrective measures may be needed, and prepare report and recommendations to senior management.

ObjectivesBy the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Recognise, list and interpret the agreed objectives for the project• Understand and define the phases of a project and the roles of a project manager• Understand the contribution of improved project planning and control• Improve the Project Management performance of a company using Earned Value Analysis, Estimating, Planning • and Risk AnalysisUnderstand the project estimating and risk analysis aspects of Project Management and improve their own contri-• bution to the project team performanceUnderstand the factors that can influence the success or failure of a project and Key Performance Indices (KPIs).• Effectively simulate assembling and building a team to complete a project• Identify areas of their own leadership skills that need to be enhanced for effective Project Management and de-• velop an appropriate action planUnderstand the contribution of improved project planning and control to the Project Management performance of a • companyUnderstand and improve their use of MS Project for the project planning, execution and controlling stages of the • project and helping to systematically monitor and control the identified risks

DurationThe course is five days and begins at 8:30 AM.

AttendeesThe course is aimed at newly promoted and aspiring project managers, project engineers, supervisors and project leaders other team members who wish to increase their knowledge of, and performance in, the management of projects.

Pre-CourseThe program assumes that the delegates have a basic knowledge of Baseline Management, Earned Value Analysis, Project Tracking, Analysis and Reporting, but provides a comprehensive review. Delegates are also expected to have prior basic knowledge of MS Windows and they will acquire skills in MS Project during practical exercises with prepared cost and planning and other examples.

FundingA grant towards the cost of this training may be available for ECITB registered companies.

ECITB – Introduction to Project Control

Overview Project Control is a vitally important aspect of project management regardless of the size of the project. Success of any project, whether an offshore hook-up, chemical plant shut-down or modifications to a plant, is more likely if it is effectively planned and then controlled throughout its life-cycle. The topics learnt on this course will enhance the likelihood of successful completion. This four day course is delivered in classroom style using worked examples and case studies. It will give participants the skills and understanding to improve and develop their own project control performance.

DurationThe course is 4 days.

AttendeesThis introductory course is aimed primarily at those new to the project environment; they may have been working in another capacity within the organisation or be graduates taking their first steps into the Engineering Construction environment. In either case, prior knowledge is not assumed or required since the course will deal with the subject starting with the very basic; “Project Control - the definition”. The course is also deemed suitable for Engineers who carry out Project Controls functions such as Planning and Cost Control.

LocationsWe deliver the course in the following locations: Aberdeen, Falkirk, Middlesbrough, Manchester, Humberside, Birmingham, London, Southampton and Wales. This course can also be delivered in-house at any location in the UK or overseas if required.

FundingA grant towards the cost of this training may be available for ECITB registered companies.

Operational Project Management

Overview This intensive four-day course gives a comprehensive and detailed insight into the core Project Management elements. A stimulating blend of theory and practice ensures that knowledge is illustrated and reinforced through the practical application of case study exercises. Real world examples are used to illustrate problems that may be faced in the working environment, and delegates are encouraged to draw upon their own experiences to further add to the learning experience. The topics, disciplines and enabling skills are progressively built upon and linked to the development of case studies solved in a team environment to further improve delegates’ personal skills.

ObjectivesBy the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the overall context within which a project is performed• Understand structural and systematic aspects of project planning, control & management• Be aware of the need for effective scope and change control and the impact on project success• Perform analytical techniques of project planning and cost control using manual and computer-based techniques (MSP • 2007)Explain and perform the practical role and general duties of project planning and cost control for the project manager and the • Project Management TeamAppreciate the role of estimating and how it relates to effective planning and control• Understand the contribution of improved project planning and control to the Project Management performance of a company• Commence, or enhance, preparation of portfolio evidence and collection of competence• Have a structured personal and professional development plan put in place•

DurationThe course is four days and begins at 9:00 AM.

AttendeesThe course is aimed at anyone who works in a project team, or needs to interface with a project team. This includes experienced personnel who are returning to project work and require to refresh their knowledge and skills; first time project appointees; project support personnel; site managers and supervisors. In addition, the course is particularly suitable for graduate, project and discipline engineers, planning engineers, cost engineers, quantity surveyors who need to understand and learn how projects are planned and controlled in industry and their company’s clients.

Pre-CourseDelegates are assumed to have little or no prior knowledge of the appropriate applications and what they need, they will acquire during practical exercises with prepared cost and planning examples.

SessionsThe sessions cover basic disciplines of project planning, control and management their contribution to Project Management. The principles are explained, demonstrated and reinforced through structured exercises and the development of a major case study. Delegates apply what they learn in this realistic simulation of a project, performing roles within the project team.

FundingA grant towards the cost of this training may be available for ECITB registered companies.
