1 Hope all of you had a great month of March, It amazes me that we already find ourselves in April. As I shared in our last newsletter we have been presented with new partnerships and opportunities and we are very excited to announce the launch of two different programs! The first being that we are now a satellite Campus for Glen Oaks College. Through our collaboration with Glen Oaks College we will offer diplomas in two of the highest in- demand and fastest growing industries, Medical Assisting and Medical Claims and Billing. These programs will not only offer students the opportunity to learn through lectures and group discussion but also includes very valuable hands on training. We have also partnered with Aspen University and the Inventive Minds Institute to offer a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. With this flexible format students will be able to take courses online while receiving their hands-on internships in nearby locations. With Dr. S.H. Jacob a renowned child development specialist and author at the helm and a professional staff, the students experience at the Inventive Minds Institute will prepare them to enter and advance in the field of child care and early childhood education as an associate teacher, teacher, and or administrator. Secondly we have also joined forces with Acquire Learning Center to fortify our SES Tutoring component. Under the leadership of Craig and Suzy Aguillard we will be able to offer: Homework Assistance After-School tutoring ESL English Language Arts Mathematics Essay Writing. Lankershim LionsThe Lions are

launching a

couple of new

programs in the

month of April.

They are starting

a Bring-A-Friend

competition with

the winner receiving the grand prize, a

basket filled with toys and games. Also

Lankershim is starting a Brand New

Wii Club!!! Students will be able to

compete against friends playing some

of their favorite video games.

E. Neal Roberts KoalasThe Koalas had a great visit from Vice-Principal Mr. Funchess. Mr. Funchess came and spoke to the students about determination and perseverance, discussing the lives of Jackie Robinson, Oprah Winfrey, & Martin Luther King Jr. He used their lives as examples of overcoming great difficulties and how they not only bettered their lives but more importantly the lives of others.

SBHS CardinalsThe Cardinals are very

excited about their

participation in the April

9th High School After

School Showcase. Where

high school students in the

District’s CAPS program

have an opportunity to

showcase the skills and

talents that they have

cultivated during their

programs. Also the

students in our Culinary

Arts class will be preparing

the hors d’oeuvres for the

VIP guest. You won’t want

to miss out.

San Andreas Quakes

Great job to all the

students that participated

in the San Andreas Talent

Show. With so many

talented acts it was hard to

choose the winners but

congratulations to: San

Andreas Dance Squad,

San Andreas Singers,

Maria Ann Cruz,

Operation Hip Hop Brian

Carballo and Samantha

Garcia we know you will

represent San Andreas

well in the Showcase.

PLI Kansas City

Things are really poppin' here in KC. We received our very first grant March 3rd. It is a capacity building grant,

so we are on the move. There is also a lot of training & mentoring currently going.

We are also very excited because will be ordering new computers for our computer lab and starting a computer class! Finally, we will have

our very first summer program starting June 4th.

Our hours of operation will be 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Norton Space & Aeronautics

Academy The students at Norton had

a great month of March. Students were able to

participate in the Science Wizards program, where

they were able to do a variety of science

experiments such as: To catch a rainbow, where the

kids were able to see the color spectrum and the mixing solutions, where

students mixed water with oil among other things.

Highland Pacific TigersHope all our

Hi-Pac

students had a

great vacation.

We are very

excited about the return of school and

know that students will be also! We

are having an Ice Cream day this

month and we too have started a

Bring-A-Friend Competition.

Students who a get a friend to join the

program will be entered in a drawing

to win a Super Grand Prize.

Each month we are a host site for Angel Food Ministries distribution. By buying food from first rate suppliers at

substantial volume discounts, Angel Food Ministries is able to provide families with approximately $65 worth of quality nutritious food for $30 Each month's menu is different and

consists of fresh, frozen and packaged food. There is no purchase limit for boxes of Angel Food.

Barbara EisenbeiszMs. Barbara works at our Norton Space & Aeronautics Academy Site. She was nominated by Site Director Danny Barela because of all her hard work and dedication. She also does an exceptional job of creating fun and interactive ways for students to learn.

Do you have ant hobbies? Hanging out with my family. My two daughters and I love playing on the

computer.

Any favorite movies? Saving Private Ryan and The Notebook.

Favorite Food?Love Sushi.

Do you have a favorite city or vacation destination? My favorite vacations so far are my Alaskan cruise and my trip to New York.

What is the best part about your job at PLI? I love working with kids. i have worked with kids for

over 19yrs of my life. Whether at church, school, or girls scouts it’s just great to see their little personalities and to see how honest they are. Also I really enjoy how much of a stress reliever they can be after tough day.
