Ben Schofield – Project Experience – Construction Marine Ltd Network Rail - Renewals Collaborative Delivery Programme: LNE006 (Earthworks) Earthworks design and build framework contract running from 2014-2018 Client: Network Rail Value: £25million Description: Main contract design and build works under NR4 (Design) and NR9 (Physical) contracts to undertake maintenance, refurbishment and renewals of the rail embankments on the London North Eastern & East Midlands route. Embankment Stabilisation: Various methods utilised to overcome stabilisation issues on the embankments. Methods used such as embankment regrades, gas & grout of rabbit burrows, installation of rabbit/badger netting to prevent burrowing, herringbone drainage to overcome severe drainage issues, benching cutting techniques to form berms, earth retaining structures such as gabion baskets and redi-rock walls. Scour/Erosion Protection: Remediation/repair and also new sea and flood defence erosion protection schemes. Undertaken with the use of materials such as rock rolls, erosion matting and rock armour. Tidal working required and possession working also due to the close proximity of NwR infrastructure on certain projects. Cess Restraint: Various methods utilised to maintain, refurbish or renew the cess areas of the railway. Methods used such as GRP ballast board, H-beam piles with armco barrier and key-klamp handrailing. The pictures below show the installation of H- beams with the use of a Road Rail Vehicle and the finished product complete with the armco barrier, key klamp handrail, stone footpath and ballast shoulder re-packed.
