  • BEFORE WE FLY... Fund Raising Activities

In order to execute the project, we had numerous wild ideas on how to go about raising funds to cover the cost of the project in less than a month. After the first meeting, we realised we have a baker, a crafter and many small entrepreneurs! One of us baked cookies, another did DIY paracord bracelets and the rest of us chose to buy and sell items. Whats best? Everyone puts in equal amount of effort to advertise and sold all items as a team!

We were also extremely fortunate to have a few generous donors who donated money to assist with our fund raising.

    What about a little cool

    handmade paracord bracelet

    around your wrist?

  • BEFORE WE FLY... Preparations

Despite our busy school schedule, we made effort to meet once every week to discuss our project plans and update on our fund raising activities. We also ensure all task delegated were completed prior to meeting because every single minute spent at our meetings were very precious to us.

    When we were

    packing our logistics...

  • READY... SET... GO!

We met Ms. Susan (In Charge of PKH

    Chbarmorn) that night too!

  • SIT-PKH CHBARMORN ACTIVITIES

The youths were still unfamiliar with us and their greetings were reluctant. We started the camp with an introduction about ourselves and split the youths into groups with fair mixtures of Year 1s, hospitality services and industrial skills students.

After familiarising themselves with us and their camp mates, we started our camp with ice breaker games followed by exciting activities.

  • SIT-PKH CHBARMORN ACTIVITIES

    Did you know..?

We customised camp booklets for the youths in PKH Chbarmorn and distributed them at the start of the camp. Before each activity, we will take turns to introduce an important value with its meaning and have

them to apply the value to each activity organised. After every activity, a short debrief was conducted and the youths wrote short

reflections on what they had learned from the activities.

So, what kind of values did we try to impart to them?

  • SIT-PKH CHBARMORN ACTIVITIES

    Value Initiative to Lead

    Game

    Choo Choo Train

How to play? The youths form a row and use a string given to tie their legs to the team member beside him or her.

After tying, facilitators ensure that they are connected. On the count of 3, the youths will walk together

towards the end point. In this game, it is important to have a person to

lead in order to get their leg movement coordinated and walk towards the end without much

    difficulties.

  • How to play?

Youths were given a specific amount of paracord ropes to make a bracelet. The action of making it is repetitive in order to compete the bracelet. For beginners, it took them an approximate half an hour to learn and complete. When they did it

again with a new set of ropes, it took them only 15 minutes or less! Amazing!

    Value Patience will be Rewarded

    Game

    Paracord Making

    Value Unity

    Game

    Ball Plant

How to play? The youths stood in a row and received

a fork and spoon in an alternate manner. All the youths were required to

hold the fork or spoon with their mouths. The first person takes the stress

ball and place on his or her spoon to pass to the next persons fork without using their hands. The group with the

most stress balls wins the game.

  • OTHER ACTIVITIES

    Game of Captains Ball

    Warm Up

    Ice Breaker Tangle Untangle

    Presentation of their Goals

  • WHATS NEXT? PKH TRANG (CHOM BOK)

On 2th April 2015, a day before we leave PKH Chbarmorn, we made arrangements to visit PKH Trang which is located at Chom Bok. It was an approximate 3 to 4 hours of bumpy ride to the destination. The national statistics of Cambodia indicate that in rural places like Chom Bok, 90 percent of the people are illiterate; they dont have the chance for education. PKH Trang has more than 300 children who will come daily for meals and English tuition. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Brother

Sokha Bunthoen (In-charge of PKH Trang) and proceed to distribute gifts that had been purchased for them. It was a pencil case set which consist of two pencils, an eraser, a ruler, a sharpener and a box of colour pencils. All of the children greeted us with their palms together to thank us after receiving their gifts.

  • PICTURES PKH TRANG (CHOM BOK)

The recce trip was an eye opener for us. The pond was close to empty and water resources were limited. The uniform of the children was

almost brownish and most of them were either bare footed or wearing an oversize slipper. They have got a huge plot of empty land in front of the school which was not utilised. Numerous ideas struck our mind at the instant. We stayed for 3 hours to have lunch and to

    better understand the environment.

    So, whats our plan?

  • PKH TRANG (CHOM BOK)

    PLANS Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH)

With the estimated available space of 27m by 14m, we are looking to build a Multi-Purpose Hall of 18m by 11m. The MPH will be a long lasting sustainable project to ensure that the children have sheltered space to play during their free time. The shelter will be able to shield the children during drought or raining season. This space can also be used as a common platform for all the children to gather when other community service organisation conduct activities with them.

    *Estimated Cost: SGD$12,000.00

Mural Painting According to various research available online, mural painting enhances children environmental awareness. It will continuously deliver principles and concepts, visions, thoughts and ideas through mural painting. This holds an important role in social learning for children as it also crafts their behavioural pattern. PKH Trang has three classrooms and a library. We target to paint the interior of a classroom & the library with the involvement of the teachers & children. *Estimated Cost: SGD$2,000.00

    * Note: The cost of these projects are subjected to change as proper quotation has yet to be

    formalized.

that you will not be giving without receiving!
