Project-based Learning ABE Level 40, High Intermediate Jackie Hamlett, ABE Instructor, College of Lake County An integrated lesson plan covering 8-10 sessions of approximately 1 hour each including reading, writing, editing, research, technology, and working as a group Lesson Overview Students will create a Powerpoint presentation describing their chosen project, and including relevant research information. Students will research their topic on the Internet, learn how to take relevant notes, summarize information, and present their findings through pictures, graphs, charts, descriptions, and an oral class presentation. Students will use Power point to design a presentation incorporating graphics, charts, maps, audio, and transition to effectively relay project information to the class. Each group or project must use at least 3 web sites to research their topic. These must be listed as sources on the final project. Websites must have credible content based upon The 5 W’s of Website Evaluation. Students need to take notes on websites, a book, or magazine, and then organize this information, and write a project summary. Students will use graphic organizers for these tasks which will be collected as part of the final project. The instructor and tutor will monitor progress, but students are expected to ask for help as needed. Each project must have a final written summary that includes information about the chosen topic, why the topic was chosen, what was learned during the process, and a list of sources that were used to gain information. This summary needs to be at least one page, but not more than two pages. Sources must be listed as a separate page.
