Dear Mr. Dobberfuhl:
S&ME, Inc. (S&ME) is pleased to provide this report summarizing the lead in soil sampling we performed at the
referenced site on August 25, 2017. Our services were performed in general accordance with S&ME Proposal No.
42-1601271-C1R dated August 14, 2017. The following sections include the project background, sampling and
analysis procedures, findings and results, and conclusions and recommendations, as necessary.
Project Background
On April 10, 2017, Ms. Tia Trate (Black & Veatch Corporation) requested a proposal for soil sampling of total lead
content for those subject structures which were determined to have the presence of lead-based paint. An
Asbestos and Lead-based Paint Assessment performed by S&ME on August 22, 23 and 24, 2017 of several
structures located on the Goodwater, Morse, and Edens Tracts identified lead-based paint on the exterior of the
house located at 1461 Venning Road, Structure #2 adjacent to the house located at 1461 Venning Road located at
the Edens Tract, and the Conex Box located at the Morse Tract. It is our understanding that the Conex box
currently on site was moved to its current location from approximately 50 feet away. Through past and present
aerial photography, we were able to determine the approximate past location of the Conex box. The soil sampling
was subsequently performed on August 25, 2017 from the drip lines of the Conex Box (past and present
locations), Structure #2, and 1461 Venning Road.
Procedures
One composite sample was collected from the drip lines of each of the three structures and former approximate
location of the Conex Box. The samples were collected from the surface to a depth of 1-2” using decontaminated
stainless steel sampling spoons. The samples were placed in a sealed container and shipped to EMSL Analytical in
Kernersville,

North Carolina for analysis using Lead in Soils by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (SW 846 3050B/7000B).
The laboratory is accredited by the National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program (NLLAP) and the American
Industrial Hygiene Association.
For the purposes of this report, the results were compared to the lead screening levels for soil listed in the USEPA
Regional Screening Levels for Chemical Contaminants at Superfund Sites table (SL Table) dated May 2016:
Residential screening level (400 parts per million) for exposure to soil through ingestion, inhalation of
particulates, and dermal contact; and
Industrial screening level (800 parts per million) for exposure to soil through ingestion, inhalation of
particulates, and dermal contact; and
Findings and Results
The soil sampling was performed on August 25, 2015, and one representative composite sample was collected at
each of the four subject areas. Based on the results of the soil samples collected from the referenced areas the
lead levels were below the analytical detection limit, and did not exceed the USEPA Residential Screening Level of
400 mg/kg or the USEPA Industrial Screening Level of 800 mg/kg.
A summary of lead results is provided in Attachment I, and a site plan is provided in Attachment II. A copy of the
laboratory analyses and chain-of-custody record is provided in Attachment III.
Limitations
The testing was limited to the ground surface (1”-2” depth) in the four subject areas and did not include a vertical
or horizontal assessment of the entire site. This report is provided for the sole use of the client. Use of this report
by any other parties will be at such party's sole risk and S&ME disclaims liability for any such use or reliance by third
parties. The results presented in this report are indicative of conditions only during the time of the sampling and of
the specific areas referenced
Conclusions and Recommendations
The soil sampling and analysis for total lead performed at the house and adjacent structure (Structure #2) located
at 1461 Venning Road located on the Edens Tract, and current and past approximate location of the Conex Box at
the Morse Tract in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina on August 25, 2017 did not identify lead levels above the
USEPA Residential or Industrial Screening Levels. Based on the results of the sampling, no recommendations are
given at this time.
