YEAR 7 PROJECT: The City of Cardiff. FACULTY OF HUMANITIES & TECHNOLOGY JUNE—JULY 2020 PROJECT CARDIFF : Year 7 Project Overview. This second programme of acvies will also focus on weaving the following skills in a meaningful and relevant way: Literacy; Numeracy; Digital competence skills, We have built this project around two of the core purposes of the New Curriculum for Wales: Enterprising, creave contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work; Ethical, informed cizens of Wales and the world. Outline of PROJECT CARDIFF: You will be studying Cardiff, the capital and largest city in Wales. This project will take three weeks to complete, and for each week there are three different tasks to complete. Tasks vary from report wring, virtual tours, research, model building, book reading, map making etc... Pupils can choose what order they wish to complete each task in, the fixture list is only there to guide them. Pupils will complete the three tasks. You can email one task at a me or all three together to the teacher, below. PROJECT CARDIFF : Year 7 Project Overview.

This second programme of activities will also focus on weaving the

following skills in a meaningful and relevant way:

Literacy;

We have built this project around two of the core purposes of the New

Outline of PROJECT CARDIFF:

You will be studying Cardiff, the capital and largest city in Wales. This project will take

three weeks to complete, and for each week there are three different tasks to

complete. Tasks vary from report writing, virtual tours, research, model building, book

reading, map making etc... Pupils can choose what order they wish to complete each

task in, the fixture list is only there to guide them.

Pupils will complete the three tasks. You can email one task at a time or all three

together to the teacher, below. For model building, please take a photo and email.

cricket, athletics or ice hockey.

Research and write out the history of

this sport in Cardiff. (Max.200 words)

Produce an annotated map showing

the location of several sporting venues

in Cardiff. e.g. Principality stadium,

Viola arena, Cardiff athletics stadium

who designed it, when it was built,

how much did it cost, total capacity,

first fixture etc…

Research the Cardiff Coal Exchange Hotel and Create a Chronological Timeline. What famous deal was struck here in 1904? What year was it built? When was it re-opened? Keep your timeline to a maximum of two A4 sides of paper/two slides on PowerPoint.

Create your own tour of the Bay using mapcustomiser to plot up to 10 famous landmarks in and around the area. https://www.mapcustomizer.com/ Where will you start and finish your tour?

Read or watch one of Roald Dahls’ literary works e.g. BFG, Fantastic Mr. Fox, James and the Giant Peach etc.. What do you think was the inspiration for this book? Research and write down what inspired Roald Dahl to compose your chosen book? (Max. 100 words)

Research the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu Temple in Cardiff and create a page on trip advisor for it - stating what they will find there (include pictures), what happens, age of the building, rules and regulations once in the building. (Max. One A4 side)

Construct one of the famous buildings or landmarks found in this Global city. We would like a 3D model using any sensible materials

available e.g. Lego, straws, cardboard… What iconic building will you choose? Take pictures

for your folder.
