The OBJECTIVES of our project are:

- forming a European citizenship which goes beyond nationality and has no frontiers; - to educate the students in order to raise a European consciousness through cultural and artistic activities; - to create opportunities for students who are socially, culturally, economically disadvantaged (included migrants) to raise their self esteem through integrating them into school and community life, with an emphasis on developing their creative and imaginative input; - to raise awareness, learn about, understand and respect the traditions and customs that exist in different countries; - to share good practices and methodologies amongst partner schools by exchanging information and teaching methods; - to enrich our students' understanding of the wider world through a precise study of the European cultural values.

Our objectives will be to add a European dimension to learning in the participating schools and a wider knowledge about different cultures and languages. There are of course several levels of cultural awareness which reflect how students grow to perceive cultural differences, and our purpose is to encourage our them to cultivate tolerance, interest and respect towards other cultures. The activities we propose will guide our students to be curious about the world around them and to make them responsible members of society. As regarding the informational exchange among teachers, a good working environment will be created in order to share our experiences, good practices and teaching methods.

SUBJECTS AND PROBLEMS we address:

The central issue of our project is to empower our disadvantaged students to become active members of their local communities and broader society. We intend to awaken our students' social consciousness in order to become socially active and empathetic towards others, regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, disability, class, or sexual identity through subjects such as: Civical Education, Religion, Music, Art, Foreign Languages, History, Geography.

RESULTS AND OUTCOMES

September 2011Start of the Campaign "Knowing our project partners" which will consist of collecting information about different cultures and traditions of the participant countries, so that students and teachers find out about the project and the schools involved.

October 2011Creating a common blog for the project where all the partners will post and exchange information. The students' research and the results of the Campaign "Knowing our project partners" will be also posted.

October 2011Exhibition of the students' drawings, having as their subject cultures, customs and traditions of the countries involved. The students will draw a mascot of the project. The best drawings will be put on the web site, one will be selected by voting.

November 2011Creating a common web site with the project objectives and activities. Teachers and students involved in the project will post a short presentation about themselves, to improve communication among participants.

December 2011Creating questionnaires about different cultures ,customs and traditions and send them on-line to the participating schools. The questionnaires will be evaluated during the project meeting

December 2011Students and teachers from both schools will give presents and gifts for Christmas to children with disabilities and special needs.

February 2012Story telling and elaboration of a common story about sharing and caring about each other.

March 2012Publishing a magazine containing activities achieved within the project and the stories made by the students.

April 2012Collecting information about Easter traditions in each of the countries involved in the project and launch them on-line on the web site.

June 2012Learning different traditional songs and dances of the countries involved. Creating CD's and videos.Evaluation of the first year project implementation.

September 2012Writing short texts (articles, interviews, quizzes, short stories), both in the mother tongue and foreign language to explain the meaning of words such as: tolerance, civic behavior, diversity, believes, xenophobia.

October 2012Questionnaires for monitoring and evaluating the project activities. Organizing workshops to find solutions for children with risk of social exclusion.

December 2012Collecting information about Christmas traditions in each country involved in the project and launch them on-line on the web site.

February 2013Publishing a multicultural newspaper with the students' articles, stories, interviews and quizzes.

April 2013Easter traditions; the activities will focus on the children with special needs.

May- June 2013 Dramatization and filming of the best interviews, articles, short stories produced in the two years’ work. Final evaluation of the project activities.
