Progressive Era

• In General, progressives wanted to…– Help put more power in the hands of the average

PERSON, NOT the wealthy business man– Help those people working in the factories, not

those who owned the factories– Follow the 4 GOALS• Social welfare, moral improvement, economic reform

(competition and muckraking) and fostering efficiency

• 3.) What is an effect of lowering tariffs?• -increases competition by allowing more foreign goods

into the country – potentially would be cheaper than the U.S. good (helps out people in the U.S. afford products)

competition is good for consumers b/c prices will drop

• -Federal Trade Commission

• 6.) What is the 19th Amendment? Why is it a “progressive” amendment?

• -women’s suffrage – allowing women to vote was a moral issue (all created equal), social welfare (women could vote on issues facing America)
