PROGRESS OF MY TRAILER SO FAR
ANNA SKELDING
My first shot within the trailer is inside an arena to set the scene of a festival and to give the audience a pre-knowledge of what the film is
about.
I have decided to add a slow motion effect to the clip to make it more dramatic and eye catching. I have also added audio of a
cheering crowd to make it more realistic and powerful.
I have also added a voice over on top of the clip stating ‘You may think that festival are just about the music, but you are wrong’. This
hints the narrative and conforms to the conventions of existing media products as a majority use voice overs within their trailers.
I have started by using a shot of my characters walking into the festival. However, as I am filming them from behind it could be
interpreted that it looks as if they are leaving. Due to this, I may re- film this scene and make the characters walk towards me instead. I have also added a blur effect to the scene to connote what is seen
through our eyes when under the influence of alcohol.
The first half of the trailer is showing footage filmed by the characters themselves at a festival. It is portraying them as
rebellious and conforms to the stereotype that teenagers are wreckless. To highlight this I have trimmed the song ‘Heads Will Roll’ on iMovie as it is upbeat and connotes partying and getting drunk. I
added a muffled effect to the song , highlighting what alcohol does to our body’s when we are drunk as I feel that the audio effect suggests confusion. I have also added effects to clips to highlight this matter.
Colours, enhancements and blurs
I edited the song using Clip Trimmer on iMovie…
I have also tried to make some of the scenes reflect the words and go in time with the words within the song. For example, during the lyrics ‘dance, dance’, I have added a
short clip of two girls dancing in the arena. I have then added the same clip again however mirrored it so that it is facing the other way. I feel that this makes it more dramatic and
helps the continuity within the trailer. I have also used contrasting colours connoting a club-like atmosphere.
“Dance” “Dance”
I have added a freeze frame to one scene within the trailer to make it more eye catching. I feel that this challenges
conventions of most film documentary trailers as not many of them use this effect. However, this would therefore make
mine stand out in comparison to competitor products.
Scene In Action Freeze Frame
After the first section of the trailer which is upbeat and shows the teenagers having fun and being rebellious etc., the second half shows the dangerous side to festivals and
statistics about under age drinking/ binge drinking. I am still in the process of completing this section.
In order to change the mood from upbeat to depressing, I have faded out the music and added a black and white effect
onto a clip from the festival. The slow song ‘Only Love’ by Ben Howard then fades in and the rest of the footage will be
shown.
I have added an audio effect onto the girls laugh at the end of the group in order to make it echo. I did this as I feel that it
subtly fades the clip out.
