Work Opportunity Center and broadcast to the Yakima and Longview Work Opportunity Centers. Approved by local employers, this 7-week program provides all the entry-level and career advancement skills needed for this field. The program is taught by Tacoma Community College faculty using interactive video technology.

WorkFirst WorkFirst helps transition people to financial stability and a rewarding career. Participants spend up to six months in the program, which provides skill assessments and on-the-job training, and increases the participant’s professional skills and employability. Participants also receive guidance in developing vocational and educational goals, identifying and eliminating barriers to employment and other support services to help them succeed.

Senior Community Service Employment Program The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is the only federal workforce program targeted to unemployed low-income seniors 55 and older. It is administered by the U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. This is a senior program with an emphasis on employment. Seniors accepted into the program will receive skill training at non-profit or government agencies and help provide additional community service for these agencies. The main purpose of this program is to transition into unsubsidized employment.

Job Resource Room The Job Resource Room is available to aid you in your ongoing job search, and is open to the public. Equipped with multiple computers, printer, phone and fax machine, as well as job postings, work guides, phone books and many other resources, the Job Resource Room is staffed with people available to assist you.

Placement Services This program assists participants in discovering their strengths and abilities and how to market themselves in the workplace, and guides them through the application and interview process. Case management is provided to successful job seekers to help them adapt to their new work environment for 90+ days.

Retention Services Retention Services supports participants in continuing a positive and successful career experience. Retention support and assistance is offered to Goodwill participants and employees for managing success in the workplace. Participants are referred to the program, or may self refer prior to receiving services.

Supported Employment Supported Employment matches qualified people with developmental disabilities to competitive jobs within the community. We offer personalized employment planning, job preparation and skill development. Once employed, we provide training, career growth and job retention services.

Group Supported Employment Group Supported Employment contracts with businesses to provide training opportunities for people whose disabilities need closer supervision. An on-site skills trainer works with groups of 4-6 individuals.

Ticket to Work Goodwill is an Employment Network (EN) for the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work Program. Beneficiaries who are between the ages of 18 and 64 and are interested in returning to work or recently began working are eligible for free services under this program. This program offers individualized services and support to assist participants in attaining financial self-sufficiency. Vocational goals and the services and support needeed to obtain these goals are developed on a case-by-case basis. Employed participants receive continuing employment support and work incentives up to five years.

Work Evaluation This is a 20-day program in which the participant is placed in a job and assessed to see how well they perform. This is a real work experience; the participant is expected to perform the duties of their job and may be paid. Successful participants may be referred to job placement services. It also gives participants the opportunity to explore up to four different jobs to help them find the best and most enjoyable fit for them. Accommodations may be made based on limitations.

Vocational Testing Knowing areas for improvement or strengths to highlight can be an important piece of resumé building, preparation for job interviews and job search activities. Tests provide concrete evidence and help identify job training needs. Goodwill provides a variety of tests that can help individuals determine their skills, strengths and weaknesses. Tests are conducted in the Assessment Lab and can evaluate interests, values, aptitudes, academic level, learning styles, cognitive ability/memory and general problem solving ability.

WORK ASSESSMENT

Computer Basics Participants learn how to navigate a computer terminal, the basics of Microsoft Word and Internet Explorer. Registration is required.

Computer Skills & Office Support The Computer Skills program includes modules from Microsoft Office Suite in Word, Excel, and Power Point. Assistive Technology is also available in JAWS screen reader, ZoomText magnification/reader enlargement and Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition software. With flexible characteristics and individualized training plans, students who complete their program will have the skills needed to continue their education in a college setting or gain entry-level employment.

Culinary Skills The Culinary Skills program provides hands-on and classroom culinary training for entry-level food service jobs. Goodwill’s Neighborhood Bistro offers an ideal, real-world training opportunity. The program consists of twelve weeks broken into two levels. Call for class start times. Students will gain skills in customer service, safety and sanitation, food preparation and cooking, serving and cashiering.

Custodial Skills The Custodial Skills Training course is a 45-day program that teaches competitive skills in the custodial field. Students learn how to perform specific skills, including equipment use and care and the effective use of cleaning compounds. Emphasis is placed on safety awareness. Students learn both team-cleaning and independent cleaning skills. Instruction includes blood borne pathogen safety and all phases of custodial duties. Students are taught in both a classroom setting and through hands-on training. A certificate is issued upon completion of the course.

Medical Cleaning For qualified Custodial Skills Training graduates, we offer a separate Medical Cleaning class that is specifically designed for work in a hospital setting. This is a 3-week comprehensive class combining classroom instruction and hands-on training in patient room and discharge room cleaning, OR cleaning, Isolation cleaning and medical terminology. A separate Certificate of Completion is issued upon successful completion.

Maximize Your Potential All Goodwill program participants are encouraged to learn how to “maximize their potential” by taking advantage of interactive workshops on a helpful range of topics - from resumés to interviews and from job search skills to dressing for success! You’ll learn through role-playing and video tapes, and take home tools you can use again and again.

SkillSoft SkillSoft uses distance learning to provide job relevant training opportunities. Courses are designed to teach new skills or enhance current skills for a variety of career opportunities. Training is completed in an online environment and courses include an opportunity to practice and test new skills. This program is self-monitored and self-paced.

Veteran Services Veteran Servcies is a one-stop program that partners with a vast network of agencies to provide a comprehensive program to veterans regardless of the need. All veterans are welcome but the services focus on Operation Iraqi Freedom/New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans and their families with job training and placement services with individualized holistic plans to help each participant succeed. The plan serves the needs of the whole family with the goal of achieving job placement, retention and long-term financial stability.

Retail Skills Retail Skills provides real world, hands-on training in a wide variety of retail tasks. This 6-9 week course is an ideal training opportunity for people interested in the retail field. Instruction is provided in a classroom setting and through on-the job settings where students work under direct supervision providing for immediate feedback.

TEACH (Training, Experience and Career Help)The Training and Career Help Program is available to qualified Retail Skills graduates and provides temporary transitional employment through internship opportunities within Goodwill.
