Intensive Workshop for musicians These intensive workshops in tango music are modelled on the traditional tango orchestra program developed and coordinated by “La Academia Tango Club” in Buenos Aires, a space dedicated to the formation of orches- tras and musicians in tango that today boasts some 130 members, 7 tango orchestras, and a guitar orchestra. Central to our approach is the importance given to the manner in which we work and rehearse, replicating that of the professional tango orchestras of the golden era (Orquesta Tipica or O.T.). Rodolfo Roballos (founder and director of L.A.T.C.) and Soledad Grigera (Director of O.T. Oriyera and Director of String of L.A.T.C.) will travel from Buenos Aires especially to direct all activities and impart their knowledge. In total, it includes 30 hours of workshops, tuition, rehearsals and perfor- mance. Throughout, we will work within the tango orchestra format with an emblematic tango repertoire, studying the following musical aspects: phrasing, rhythmic melodies and articulation, tempo considerations, models of accompaniment, listening skills, analysis of arrangements, analysis of styles and nuance. The program is open to all musicians. Working under the direction of Roballos and Grigera, an ensemble/ensem- bles will be formed, incorporating the range of instruments participating. The traditional tango orchestra consists of up to 5 bandoneones, 4 violins, a viola, a cello, a double bass, an electric guitar, and piano. However, all instruments are welcome and will be catered for, and no prior tango knowledge is required. The program is divided into three stages, culminating in a concert; 1st Stage: Ensemble formation and classes/rehearsals (9 hrs). 2nd Stage: Musical Retreat (11 hrs). 3rd Stage: Rehearsals and final concert (9hrs + 1 hr).
