Programme 22 March till 29 MarchDutch customs and etiquette
Thursday 22 March
Estimated time of arrival at the train station of Groningen: 6:52 p.m.
Friday 23 MarchIn het morning
• 8:30 a.m.: The students will have the opportunity to talk about the previous evening and the first acquaintance with their exchange partner.
• At 9 a.m. we will have a short Dutch lesson followed by a tour through the school.
• Break: 10:10 till 10:30 a.m.• At 10:30 some Dutch students
will give a presentation about the Netherlands.The students have prepared posters with information about the Netherlands as well.
• The students are going to make a typically ‘Dutch Delfst blue tile’.
In the afternoon
• A quest through the city and a visit to the university museum. At 5 p.m. everyone has to be back at school. The Basque students will put their shoe at school (like hanging up a Chirstmas stocking = a Dutch St Nicholas tradition).
Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 March
The students will spend these days with their host families and will follow the programmes
the families have prepared for them (like a visit to the seal sanctuary or the cartoon
museum).
Monday 26 March
In the morning
• 9:00 This morning is all about Dutch games, sports and the Dutch feast of St Nicholas. The students will be divided into 3 groups that will rotate.
• Group 1: games• Group 2: sports• Group 3: bake ‘pepernoten’ and
other St Nicholas treats
In the afternoon
We will celebrate St Nicholas in 2 groups of about 25 persons. The Basque students will also find out what St Nicholas has put in their shoes!
Tuesday 27 March: Amsterdam
Today we will visit Amsterdam. We will have a guided tour under the ground, to learn about the Dutch underground system (still a work in progress) and visit the Anne Frank museum or the Rijks museum. Also, we will go on a tour through the city (and visit the Albert Cuyp market).
Wednesday 28 March
In the morning
• 10:30 -12:00: The students will learn a typically Dutch song. Students who can play an instrument are invited to assist!
In the afternoon
• 12:30 – 1 p.m.: The Dutch and Basque students will ask each other questions about their country’s customs and etiquette.
• 1 -2:30 p.m.: The students will work on presentations for that evening.
• 2:30 - --: The students will have some time to go to the city centre and buy some souvenirs, etc.
On Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. the students and their (host) families will come to school to have dinner together (a typically Dutch meal) and the students will give the presentations and sing the Dutch song.
Thursday 29 March
At 10:07 a.m. the train to Schiphol leaves. (Thank you and goodbye)
