Ladies and Gentlemen,

Following the highly successful Nanofair conferences of the last years, which attracted delegates from all over the world, Nanofair 2010 again will bring together the international community of science and industry. Already started in 2002 Nanofair is the most established conference on nanotechnology inEurope and among the premier events worldwide.

Under the slogan “New Ideas for Industry” Nanofair as an international confe-rence will present a vital platform for the exchange of ideas and the generation of initiatives between science and industry. The focus of the conference will be on nanotechnology in the fields of materials and surfaces, energy, electronics, life sciences as well as analytics. Plenary lectures by internationally renowned speakers and contributed oral presentations will offer delegates excellent opportunities to become acquainted with the latest developments in this diversefield. A comprehensive poster session will complement the technical program. Sufficient time will be available for discussions on challenges and solutions, newmaterials and processes as well as with cooperation partners. An exhibition running concurrently to the conference offers excellent opportunities to promotetechnical interchange of information and to present the latest in equipment, services and materials for commercializing R&D results. Dresden with its unique alliance of large scientific research institutes of Fraunhofer, Max-Planck, Leibnizand Helmholtz Association and the University of Technology Dresden is proud ofbeing the host of the conference.

We are looking forward to welcoming you in Dresden.

Tuesday, 6 July 2010Castle Albrechtsberg, Dresden, 19:30Awarding of the VDI Young Researcher Prize

The VDI society of Materials Engineering awards a prize for the best diploma, bachelors ormaster’s thesis in the field of nanotechnology. A jury of renowned experts reviewed theseproposals and made up their decision on the winner. The award ceremony for the YoungResearcher Prize will be held at the evening reception of the Nanofair conference. The winner will get the opportunity to present his thesis at the conference.

Wednesday, 7 July 2010International Congress Center, Dresden, 11:00 – 15:00Workshop on Carbon Based Materials

The European ObservatoryNANO project launches a short workshop during the Nanofairconference with focus on the future of carbon based materials.

Special program

Page 15: programm nanofair2010 fürDruck:Layout 1 · first-hand information about career opportunities and expectations of high-tech compa-nies. Top level manager of well-known companies will

A peer reviewed report on this topic will be published in April on the ObservatoryNANOwebsite (http://www.observatory-nano.eu). The intention of the workshop is not only to discuss the report but also to discuss possible future directions from a scientific and commercial point view. Several outstanding experts including Hans-Jörg Fecht (University of Ulm), Alison Crossley (University of Oxford), Hans-Joachim Scheibe (Fraunhofer IWS) and Leif Brand (VDI-TZ) will give a short introduction to this topic. After that a round table discussion is planned. Key questions to be addressed will be most promising carbon basedapplications and future markets. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. Therefore an early registration is required at [email protected].

Thursday, 8 July 2010Fraunhofer Campus, Dresden, 9:00 – 17:00Workshop “Commercializing Future Technologies for Energy and Energy Efficiency”

Climate change and an increasing price of oil enforce considerable efforts to develop newtechnologies for the generation and for a more efficient use of energy. Solar energy, fuelcells as well as improved energy efficiency in the automotive industry are topical themes. Therefore an additional workshop will be held addressing these top issues following the conference. Leading experts will report on the latest developments and be available for discussions. Time is reserved for specific 1 to 1 meetings in order to make discussions mostproductive. Guided lab tours will complement the workshop and allow the participants togain a detailed insight in state of the art technologies.

Participation is included in the Nanofair 2010 conference fees. Stand-alone participation without a Nanofair 2010 registration will cost EUR 50,00. Please note that the number ofparticipants is limited to 50 persons and registration in advance is required. Further infor-mation and the detailed program will soon be available on the conference website. You may register for the workshop by email to [email protected].
