This kind of match results in the greatest

benefit for the high school students. The

younger students receive the attention and

nurturing to build leadership skills that they

may miss out on in their school settings. And

carefully structured team activities involving

students, law clerks and staff foster the open

exchange of ideas and a sense of tolerance.

Summer Research Participation Program –

Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) offers

summer research experiences to students at

different levels of their academic development.

The high school program provides students the

opportunity to conduct research and experience

the life-style of a researcher at an NCI-

designated comprehensive cancer center.

Each student spends seven weeks (Last week of

June to mid-August) working full-time on an

independent research project under the

supervision of a of RPCI scientific staff

member and alongside graduate students and

post-doctoral trainees. The program concludes

with a scientific conference at which students

present a scientific poster on their research

project. The experience gained by this program

proves invaluable for enabling them to make

decisions about undergraduate majors and

specializations in the life sciences.

We have limited funding available from our

The principal objective of this special summer

studio was to familiarize the academic team

with the architecture of the city of Bath in

England, particularly its impressive 18th

century fabric and the urban developments that

it subsequently inspired, and to extract models

from these for contemporary adaptation. While

becoming familiar with the city’s unique

architectural character, students were

challenged to further develop the local urban

and building types in the design of a masterplan

for a central area along the River Avon.

China

Major growth potential in Asia has spurred the

School to develop an ongoing summer program

in China in partnership with Nanjing

University. The China program explores the

countries’ best practices in urban development,

green architecture and environmental planning.

Through the study of Asia’s architectural

traditions and their influence on high-quality

modern urban living, the program examines

how architects and planners have responded to

evolving social demands compared to their

counterparts in the West.
