Glimpses along the way of the Cross (Audio Presentation) In these three beautiful talks, Monsignor James Shea guides us along the Stations of the Cross, teaching us how to open our hearts more to the suffering and loneliness of Jesus on His way to Calvary. Weaving together the insights of keen believers like Fr. Richard Neuhaus, Caryll Houselander, Archbishop Fulton Sheen, and Dr. James Edwards, these powerful meditations take us into the depths of Christ's agony, and back out again into the joy of what His sacrifice means for us. Lenten Fast and Abs nence Rules

Each Catholic is asked to preserve the peniten al purpose and character of Lent, which begins Ash Wednesday. Therefore: • Catholics who have celebrated their 14th

birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and each Friday of Lent.

• Catholics who have celebrated their 18th birthday, in addition to abstaining from meat, should fast, that is, eat only one full meal on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Smaller quantities of food may be taken at two other meals, but no food should be consumed at other times during those two days. The obligation of fasting ceases with the celebration of one’s 59th birthday.

These prac ces are designed for spiritual growth. Catholic are not to excuse themselves from these prescribed minimal peniten al prac ces.

We are in need of Communion Ministers for the hospitals.

Please call the parish office at 575-524-8563 and leave a

message for Fr. Josh.

SAINTJOSEPH(1stCentury)PatronofDyingandofallFathers Feast Day is March 19.Joseph was a good Jewish man in the family line of the great King David. His family was originally from Bethlehem in Judea, but Joseph himself was a poor carpenter living in Nazareth. Joseph was Mary’s husband and Jesus’ foster father. It

was his great privilege and joy to take care of God’s own Son, Jesus, and his mother, Mary. Joseph was happy to work for his li le family. He loved Jesus and Mary very much. Whatever the Lord wanted him to do, St. Joseph did at once, no ma er how difficult it was. He was humble and pure, gentle and wise. Jesus and Mary loved him and obeyed him because God had placed him as the head of their family. Joseph is not men oned in the Gospel once Jesus began his ministry. This is probably because he had died by this me. We can imagine what a beau ful death St. Joseph experienced, with Mary and Jesus there beside him. For this reason, St. Joseph is prayed to as the protector of the dying. St. Teresa of Avila chose St. Joseph as the protector of her Carmelite Order. She had great trust in his prayers. “Every me I ask St. Joseph for something,“ she said, “he always obtains it for me.” Pope Pius IX proclaimed St. Joseph the patron of the Universal Church. Pope Leo XIII named him as a model for fathers of families.

Is God calling you to serve His people as a Permanent Deacon?

Permanent Deacons are ordained to serve the People of God. They assist at the altar, proclaim the Gospel, preach, and preside at baptisms, weddings, funerals and other liturgies. They teach, counsel, administrate, visit the sick and serve the poor.

The Diocese of Las Cruces has begun its recruitment of its next class of Deacons. Between now and the end of May 2019 the Office of Deacon Formation is accepting preliminary applications to the Deacon Program. The Year of Inquiry into the Diaconate will begin in August 2019. Inquirers will meet one evening a month for prayer, presentation and discernment. For more information contact Deacon Leonel Briseno with the Diocese of Las Cruces Office of Deacon Formation at 575-523-7577, by email at [email protected] or register online at www.rcdlc.org/inquiry
