Special Recreation Dance On January 19, 2018, Special Recreation Department held its annual Dinner Dance at Bulger Park. This year’s theme was Country Western. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we were able to serve our guests a delicious western style dinner catered by Cuomo Catering and provide them with a souvenir to take home to remember the night. Special thanks to our amazing DJ Rich Stachon who always plays the best hits and is never shy to hit the floor with everyone! Also, special thanks to Pan American Bank for donating the delicious sweet table and volunteering at the event! We are always so excited and pleased to provide people with developmental disabil-ities in our communities with this annual event where they feel really special and look forward to having a blast every year!Thank you to our generous sponsors: Action Painting Company, Thomas M. Bastian, City of Northlake, CMS Corporation, County Line Pizza Enterprises, Friends of Don Harmon, Leyden Township Boys Football, Mackie Consultants, LLC., Thomas D. Olson, (Vet-erans Park District Board President), Pan American Bank & Trust, Donna L. Peluso (Veterans Park District Executive Director), Precision Repair, Inc., Premier Insurance, School District 89, SignCo, Special-T Unlim-ited, and Village of Franklin Park.

Leyden Township & Veterans Park District Annual Firework ShowWe are looking forward to the 9th Annual Fireworks Display partnered with Leyden Township on June 30th. It’s a great event that takes place at the Leyden High School’s West Campus, located at 1000 N. Wolf Road in Northlake. Gates open at 6 PM with live music by The Pondhawks from 7 to 8 PM and again from 8:30 to 9:30 PM ending just prior to the fireworks display.Jesse White and the Jesse White Tumblers will perform from 8 to 8:30 PM. Should a rain date be required, only the fireworks display will go on and the gates will open at 8PM.Be a part of what has become an exception-al local tradition in the celebration of the birth of our wonderful country. We look forward to seeing you there!

“SWING INTO KINDNESS” UPDATEVeterans Park District and the Leyden Alum-ni continue fundraising efforts for installation of the wheel chair swing at Gouin Park. We have reached just under $5,000 so far! Although there is a way to go we are looking forward to many Spring and Summer events at Veterans Park District and other locations where we will continue to raise funds to implement the installation for the wheel chair swing. The Leyden Alumni are planning an event midsummer at the Underpass Restaurant and Lounge in Franklin Park. All will be welcome to attend for an evening of fun. All proceeds collected will be donated to the swing. Stay tuned for more information and details regarding this event. We will post them on Facebook when they are available. If you would like to make a donation please go to: www.youcaring.com/swingintokindness2018.

A FOND FARWELLSadly, Veterans Park District mourns the loss of two of our WWII Veterans; Angelo James Provenzano, known as “Al” and “Pro”, and Hector J. Canestrini. Al was always entertaining with stories and song; Hector, quiet and always smiling. The World War II veterans exem-plified humility and kindness. We were fortunate to get to spend time with them as they joined us at many of the Veterans Day Observance ceremonies held annually at Bulger Park in Melrose Park and monthly at the “Cup of Joe” veteran coffee talk and get together held at Cimbalo Museum in Melrose Park. We consider having known them an honor and a privilege. They will be missed.

At this summer’s Sports Camp, your child will get to learn and improve their skill base for different sports that we will have to offer! We believe to be a good athlete, you have to be well-rounded at multiple sports. Professional athletes come from a background of playing and excelling in multiple sports so why not try our Sports Camp. Hand-eye coordination, balance, speed, agility, decision making, teamwork and sportsmanship are just a few of the skills that will be taught for this camp. Kids will learn the basics and go through developmental drills for all the specific sports taught for the day. Game play and tournaments will be played after going through warm-ups and drills. Children have the opportunity to learn a new sport, enhance their sport knowledge, gain a competitive edge and fine-tune their skills for each specific sport in Sports Camp. El preescolar usa el programa Get Set for School Readiness, Writing and Math Curriculum for Pre-K.

Mommy and Me: This class is offered for students who are not ready to be separated from their parent(s) for half-hour long ballet class. ONE parent/student will participate for entire class period with their child. Each student will work on balance and becoming independent.

Pre-Ballet: The basics of ballet are presented in a fun and edu-cational way. Song and rhyme are incorporated for these younger students. Students work on mostly loco-motor movement to increase coordination, balance, and flexibility. Students are introduced to simple ballet terms and movements.

Ballet 4-6: Students further their ballet technique as well as begin to learn French ballet terminology. Students will learn new and more complex steps and begin to connect movements with their official French names. Improvisation is introduced as a means of self-ex-pression.

Ballet 7-10: Students further their knowledge of ballet by learning more technically advanced steps. Students are expected to know the French translations of steps. Choreography is focused on connecting various steps together, and working in small groups to create short ballet routines. The Lady with all the Answers

Enjoy a Broadway style theater along with fine luncheon cuisine at The Theatre at the Center. Popular advice columnist Ann Landers had a life which seems letter-perfect. With more than 90 million readers each day, she had a quick wit which could be comical and creative, as well as sharp and shocking, all in the same sentence. It is 1975 when we join Landers in her Lakeshore Drive apartment in Chicago. She shares some of her most fascinating stores.Date Day Fee Code # Aug 8 Tu $75 LadyMP LadyNLDeparture: 10:15 AM Cimbalo Fitness Center / 10:30 AM Grant ParkReturn: 5:30 PMLocation: Munster, IN

GREASE at The Fireside Theatre

Grease is among the world’s most popular musicals. Enjoy this fun musical in Fireside’s intimate theatre-in-the-round to travel back in time to Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: duck-tailed, hot-rodding “Burger Palace Boys” and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking “Pink Ladies” in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoking the look and sound of the 1950s. Head “greaser” Danny Zuko and new (good) girl Sandy Dumbrowski try to relive the high romance of their “Summer Nights” as the rest of the gang sings and dances its way through such songs as “Greased Lightnin’, recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Rich-ard, and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. Enjoy a delicious lunch that has earned Fireside Theater the coveted ranking of #1 Family Restaurant in America. There will be plenty of time for browsing their spectacular gift shops or relaxing in the lounge.

No eligible participant shall be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage or opportunity on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin, activities, services, or benefits.

II. Behavior:

Participants are expected to exhibit positive behavior at all times. The following guidelines have been developed to help make park district programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. Additional rules may be developed for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff.

Participants shall:

1. Show respect to all participants and staff.

2. Take directions from staff.

3. Refrain from using abusive or foul language.

4. Refrain from causing bodily harm to self, other participants, or staff.

5. Show respect to equipment, supplies, and facilities.

III. Discipline

A positive approach will be used regarding discipline. Staff will pe-riodically review rules with participants during the program session. If inappropriate behavior occurs, prompt resolution will be sought specific to each situation. The park district reserves the right to dis-miss a participant whose behavior endangers the safety of himself/herself or others.

IV. Procedure

Upon registration or entry into the program, the parent/guardian should be solicited for any information regarding special accom-modation needed. For example, if the registration form asks to describe accommodation needed for the participant’s enjoyment of a particular program, and the parent response indicates “a positive role model for behavior,” or another response of that nature, the parent should be contacted for information about any behavior modification programs in place at school or home. Attempts should be made to utilize these in the program.
