Culture Days Pre-registered workshops

Registration opens at 10 a.m. outside each workshop studio however space is limited. Priority is given to wait-listed participants, followed by participants who sign up the day of the workshop.

Online registration for workshopsVisit oakville.ca and register for workshops. If you’re unable to attend and need to cancel, please let us know so that we accept wait-listed participants. Online registration closes September 24. Unregistered participants will only be accepted if space is available on the day of the workshop.

Black Box TheatreTickets are free and can be picked up at the entrance to the Black Box Theatre one hour prior to performance.

Show times: 11 a.m.–noon and 1–2 p.m.Maderaz Interactive Latin Music Show Maderaz is set to offer Oakville a fun and interactive way to learn about the various and rich traditions of Carnival and festivals in Latin America. Through “Fiesta and Carnival”, Maderaz will take the audience on a musical journey to cultural festivals and celebrations all around the world.

Show time: 3–4 p.m. Oakville Improv Theatre Company presents Theatresports™ Teams of improvisers square off against each other in a comedy battle royale where anything goes. Expect mayhem, adventure and defeat. Audience suggestions encouraged!

Dance/Music Workshops11–11:30 a.m. Scottish Country dancing Try it!Oakville Scottish Country Dance Group — Dance StudioWe welcome you to join us, even if you don’t have a partner or a drop of Scottish blood in your veins, we will have you Scottish dancing in no time.

11 a.m.–noon Halton Dance Network Presents “heartBEATZ” — Main Entrance OutdoorsA local choreographer will collaborate with drummers and a dance collective from three communities to create an original dance work and a local dance studio will showcase a dance number from their current repertoire. “heartBEATZ” will invite the audience and all dancers to participate in an interactive dance experience/workshop.

11 a.m.–noon and 1:30–2:30 p.m. Culture Days Workshop — Recording StudioWork with a singer songwriter and a sound engineer to learn how to record a cover in the studio! (Ages 18+)

11 a.m.–noonEarly Childhood Music ClassOakville Suzuki Association – Program Room 2Activities include singing, musical games, use of rhythm instruments, and the exploration of several orchestral instruments.

11:40 a.m.–12:20 p.m. Dance for Couples (Town of Oakville Program) — Dance Studio Try it!Bring your partner and join us for an introduction to some contemporary ballroom and Latin American Dancing. (Ages 18+)

12:30–1 p.m Dance Mix: Step up! Step Out! (Town of Oakville Program) — Dance Studio Try it!Dance Mix will introduce you to sessions from jazz to ballet and contemporary to hip hop. (Ages 6–12)

Intrada Brass performs primarily as

an authentic British-style brass band

playing a wide repertoire and with the

goal of encouraging the composition

and arranging of music for brass and

percussion by Canadians.

Circle of Harmony Performance

Enjoy award winning four-part a cappella

group Circle of Harmony Chorus singing

different genres.

Ballet Creole

Performing a cameo performance with

dancers and an African drummer. With

an emphasis on the disciplines of the

Caribbean and Africa, Ballet Creole

focuses on traditional and contemporary

dance while infusing music from around

the world.

Oakville Symphony Presents MozART

Help create a huge work of art! Can you

illustrate how music makes you feel?

We’ll have several Oakville Symphony

musicians on hand to inspire your kids,

plus a draw for tickets to our popular

Young People’s Concert.

Oakville Suzuki Association Fiddle Festival

Fiddle music performance by Suzuki

2–2:30 p.m. Steel Pan Try it!Canadian Caribbean Association — Multi-Purpose 1 & 2 Steel Pan is a unique musical instrument originating from the Caribbean island of Trinidad.

2–2:50 p.m. Tai Chi Try it!Oakville Chinese Network — Dance StudioTai Chi is considered one of the internal styles of Chinese martial art, and is the most widely practiced martial art in the world today.

3–4 p.m. Culture Days Workshop — Recording StudioWork with a singer songwriter and a sound engineer to master a song! This is a parented workshop. Child registers: adult accompanies (one child: one adult). (Ages 7–16)

3–4 p.m.Chinese ribbon dance Try it!Oakville Chinese Network — Dance StudioThe Chinese ribbon dance is a performance that features dancers whirling long strips of silk through the air. The silk ribbons are attached to short, varnished sticks, and as the dancer manipulates the silk, they will also perform specific steps and leaps.

All Clay will be recycled; if participants choose to keep the clay pieces there will be a $5 fee for firing and glazing. Pieces will be ready to take home within 3 weeks. (All ages, family drop-in)

11 a.m.–noon and 1:30–2:30 p.m. Culture Days Workshop — Clay Studio Sign up for a beginner’s workshop to wheel-throwing, led by an experienced potter. Students will be introduced to the basic skills, control and the subtle aspects of throwing. No previous experience required. This workshop is skill-based; there will not be a final project. Dress for mess! (Age 18+)

11 a.m.–noon and 1:30–2:30 p.m. Culture Days Workshop — Digital Arts LabAn instructor will introduce the basics of Photoshop. Learn how to tweak your photos into everything from clearer images to complete fantasies. Basic Mac OS Knowledge is recommended. (Ages 18+)

Participants are encouraged to bring inspiring stories and burning questions to share as we demo some common woodworking, joining, finishing, and upholstery basics. (Ages 18+)
