Vad är det du undersöker och varför?

Jag undersöker vad som händer i samspelet

mellan barnen och mellan danspedagog och

barnen under en danslektion och vilken typ

av lärande som sker. Lärande i och om dans

men även hur barn förväntas vara och bete

sig till exempel om man får prata under en

danslektion. Den övergripande frågan är: Vil-

ken kulturell kompetens socialiseras barnen

in i en danskontext?

Vad kommer vi att få

ta del av under din presentation?

Jag kommer att berätta om vad jag hittills

observerat. Utifrån frågan ”Vad lär sig barnen

förutom att dansa” kommer jag diskutera hur

det kan skapas förutsättningar för barn som

aktörer och på vilket sätt barnens handlings-

utrymme kan öka under en danslektion.

What are you investigating

in your research and why?

I investigate what is happening in the inter-

play between the children and between the

dance teacher and the children during a dan-

ce lesson. And what kind of learning environ-

ment is present, for example: are the children

allowed to talk during class? The overall

question is: What cultural competence does

the child integrate into in a dance context?

What will we experience

during your presentation?

I will tell you what I’ve observed so far. My

discussion will be based on the question:

”What do children learn in addition to dan-

cing and how can we create conditions for

children as social agents and in what way

can the childrens latitude increase during the

dance lesson”.

We are analyzing the relationship between

design and narrative.

Finding a common language between the

fields of fine and dramatic arts concerning

design processes.


Temat för mitt forskningsprojekt är arbets-

kraftens ekonomi inom konstnärlig forskning,

ett fält av akademiserade konstnärliga verk-

samheter upphöjda och giltiggjorda inom

högre och högre hierarkier av Den Högre Ut-

bildningsindustrin, en del av Kunskapseko-

nomin. Denna ekonomi, eller marknad, inom

internationella nätverk av (gravt politiserad)

högskoleindustri, kommer av nödvändighet

att producera dess egen form av konstnärlig

forskningskonst samt dito konstnärlig forsk-

ningsteori.

The area involved in my inquiry is the eco-

nomy of labour within artistic research,

an area of academized art practice being

elevated and validated within higher and

higher hierarchies of The Higher Education

Industry, a part of The Knowledge Economy.

This economy, or market, inside international

networks of that (severely politicized) indu-

stry, will by necessity produce its’ own line

of artistic research art as well as its’ own line

of artistic research theory. I call these two

products Edu-art and Edu-theory; Edu being

a short form for Education.



On this seminar there will be a screening of

a film after which there will be a ten minutes

long conversation.


Happy Surprises – A lecture-performance

I investigate the potentialities for the voice in

the realm of contemporary vocal art practi-

ces. As opposed to a market that forces the

singer to become an expert in one particular

genre and register, I rather follow an inclu-

sive conception of vocal art performance,

that encompasses the singing, speaking a

well as the extended and disembodied voice.

I’m particularly interested to uncover the

in-between spaces applying extended vocal

techniques, on the one hand, and gestu-

re-controlled live electronics, on the other.



‘Happy Surprises’ will give insights into the

interconnectedness of vocal, bodily and

technological actions and raise the question

of how to deal with unforeseen matters. The

audience will be introduced to the graphic

user interface of the software used, based

on Max 7, and thereby experience both

pitfalls and strategies of how to overcome

those, all along the line from programming,

testing/playing and performing with the

software of custom-built live electronics.

The aim is to shed light on the long-lasting,

tedious, strenuous and sometimes even

painful process of inventing and imple-

menting musical ideas as well as sonic

concepts to eventually come into being

during the actual performance act.

In my research I am exploring various forms

for how to lead and distribute mandate in

performing arts processes. What makes col-

laborative processes by independent artists

possible and are there detectable parame-

ters to alert us when things are starting to go

Även om många jobb kommer att finnas kvar

så är en realistisk syn på framtiden att auto-

matisering kommer att föra med sig överväl-

digande massarbetslöshet och ett behov av

att revidera vår idé om vad som gör tillvaron

meningsfull. Hur kan konsten förbereda oss

på detta?



Projektet är nytt och under utveckling. Det är

ett samarbete med sociologin och därmed

interdisciplinärt. Presentationen kommer att

bli en exposé av en rad centrala frågor med

stöd av vissa audiovisuella element.

Although many jobs will remain, a realistic

view of the near future is that automation will

bring overwhelming mass unemployment and

an urgent need to review our idea on what

gives meaning to our existence. How can art

prepare us for this?



The project is new and under development.

It is a collaboration with sociology, hence

interdisciplinary. The presentation will be an

exposé of a number crucial questions sup-

ported by some sort of audio-visuals.


En traditionell repetitionsperiod inom teater

handlar om att gemensamt bygga ett sce-

niskt konstverk som ska kunna spelas över

lång tid. Vad händer när jag som skåde-

spelare inte tar del av det arbetet utan bara

hoppar in? Mitt forskningsprojekt handlar om

inhoppets mekanismer och konsekvenser.

Jag vill ta reda på mer om vilka förutsätt-

ningar som ges och vilka förutsättningar det i

sig skapar för de inblandade, i förlängningen.

A traditional rehearsal period for a stage

production is about the collective process of

creating a piece of artwork that is possible to

perform for a long period of time. What hap-

pens to me as an actor if I don’t take part in

that process and just replace another actor?

My research project is about the mechanisms

of substituting/replacing and what consequ-

ences it brings. I want to know more about

the circumstances involved and the condi-

tions they create for the involved.

tet med att sceniskt gestalta en berättelse.

Vilka val kan göras, hur kan en gå till väga

metodmässigt, hur undviks ett rent illustre-

rande? Jag vill undersöka detta därför att det

är en del av ett arbete med en lärobok som

jag håller på att skriva och för att jag vill för-

djupa kunskapen om de möjligheter som den

rörelsebaserade scenkonsten rymmer.



Jag kommer först att tala lite om den lärobok

jag arbetar med som ska heta ”Rörelsen först

– om regi för rörelsebaserad scenkonst”. Sen

kommer jag att hålla en workshop där de

som vill ur publiken blir deltagare. Vi kommer

att undersöka olika rörelsemässiga gestalt-

ningsmetoder ur en känd berättelse.

I investigate the possibilities of the move-

ment in the process of working on stage

with a narrative. What choices can be made,

how can one approach it methodically, how

to avoid being purely illustrative? I want to

investigate this because it is a part of an

educational textbook I’m working on and

because I want to deepen the knowledge

about what opportunities the motion-based

performing arts can hold.



I will first talk a little about the textbook I’m

working on, which will be called ”First comes

the movement – On Directing for Motion-Ba-

sed Performing Arts”. Then I will hold a

workshop with those from the audience who

want to participate. We will investigate diffe-

rent modes of motion from a known story.

What to think of a blind photographer like

Evgen Bavcar? Of the concertos which Mau-

rice Ravel composed for the one-handed

pianist Paul Wittgenstein? And what about

a dance performance, called ‘The Invisible

Dancer’, where both fully sighted and visu-

ally impaired audience members are being

asked to close their eyes and just listen to

dance?

Disabilities are typically viewed as being

‘a lack’ or ‘a deficiency’. While drawing on

insights from Disability and Sensory Studies,

I will rather argue that dis/ability entails an

essentially creative reorganization of sen-

sory experience. By disrupting the ‘normal’

ways of perceiving the world, disability has

always inspired many artists from all kinds

of disciplines. By discussing historical and

more recent examples from literature, dance,

Artistic processes and interdisciplinary

methods in relation to climate change. We

focus on the role of the performative arts to

transform passive audiences attending to

the drama of unsustainability into committed

actors for sustainability. We propose a trans-

disciplinary collaboration between natural,

social, and artistic researchers and artists.



A presentation of the project and its

background develops into an interactive

workshop where the participants’ reflections

and associations are the starting point of the

creation of story boards and scenarios.

My research is concerned with the tools

we as film designers will need in the future.

These may be digital or analogue technical

tools or tools relating to new ways of com-

municating through moving images. The

way we as designers traditionally have used

space, place, architecture and objects as

storytelling tools is currently being called

into question by the introduction of interac-

tivity, video game mechanics, virtual reality

and longer or shorter linear (and non-linear)

storytelling formats. This is a challenging and

exciting time for production design!



I am showing a case study which is very

much a work in progress. I’ll be giving an

introduction to a project which explores

the interplay between filmed documentary

material and the use of spatial design. I will

show scale models, sketches, some film

and a set build under construction – and

if everything goes according to plan there

might also be an element of virtual reality.


Projektet undersöker relationen mellan

genom att öppna upp för interaktion. Pro-

cessbaserade arbetsmetoder innebär att vi

The project investigates the relationship

between the documentary narrator and

participants by opening up for interaction.

Process-based working methods mean that

we examine the flow of ideas. This then

forms the basis for the democratization of

the documentary narrative – away from fake

dichotomies and locked positions.



Together we explore the new technology that

supports experiences in 360 degree video.

Jag undersöker om det går att skapa ett tro-

värdigt rum med hjälp av ljud. Det ska vara

möjligt för åhörarna att röra sig i rummet

utan att rumsuppfattningen förstörs. Om

det fungerar så vill jag gå vidare genom att

undersöka det som är huvudfrågan i all min

forskning; relationen mellan perspektiv, rum

och berättelse.



Jag kommer spela upp några ljudexempel

där det rumsliga är i centrum. Åhörarna kan

röra sig i detta ljudrum och uppleva illusio-

nen av att fysiskt befinna sig i ett rum, men

samtidigt i ett helt annat.

I’m investigating if it’s possible to use sound

to create a credible space. I’d like it to be

possible for the listeners to move around

in that space without loosing the spatial

conception. If this works I’d like to use this

to investigate the main question in all my

research: the relation between perspective,

space and story.



I’m going to play some sound clips where

the spatial aspect is the most important. The

listeners will be able to move around in this

sonic space and experience the illusion of

physically being in one location but at the

same time be somewhere else.

En aspekt av dressyr/ridkonst är den mot-

sägelsefulla idén om att redskap möjliggör

närhet. Vilka slags redskap måste jag, som

konstnär och forskare använda, eller accep-

tera, för att möjliggöra och artikulera koreo-

grafin i forskningen; dess möjlighet till närhet

(dess relevans som konstnärlig erfarenhet)

och behovet av distansering (reflektion)? Hur

kan jag vända den här praktiken mot/in i mig

själv? Frågan är: vad är mitt bett?



I expositionen ”it choreographs” är mitt bett

pennan. Jag infogar bettet, obstruktionen,

på/i mig själv som ett sätt att tala om mot-

stånd och acceptans, om rätten, eller inte, att

rida och skriva, om riten, försöket, ögat och

att böja/s. Jag praktiserar dessa frågor i en

konstnärlig form och hävdar rätten att vara

obegriplig i forskningen, men specifikt så.

One aspect of dressage riding is the contra-

dictory idea that tools enable proximity. What

kind of tools do I as an artist, researcher,

have to use, or accept, to make possible and

to articulate the choreography in the resear-

ch; its possibilities for proximity (its relevan-

ce as artistic experience) and the need for

distancing (reflection)? How can I turn this

practice onto/into myself? The question is:

what is my bit?



In the exposition, it choreographs, my bit is

the pen. I insert this bit, the obstruction, on/

in myself as a way to speak about resistance

and acceptance, about the right, or not, to

ride and write, the rite, the try, your eye and to

derive. I practice these questions in an artistic

form and claim the right to be incomprehensi-

ve in the research, but specifically so.


Jag undersöker hur ett nyhetsberättande

bortom dagens skulle kunna se ut genom att

låna gestaltningsverktyg från angränsande

fält. Traditionella medier står idag inför stora

utmaningar och jag hoppas att projektet kan

bidra till diskussion om trovärdighet, källkri-

tik, form och gestaltning.



Delar av projektets förstudie kommer att

visas. Just nu pågår ett antal kollaborativa

”Labb” där projektet provar fiktiva gestalt-

ningsmetoder för nyhetsberättandet.

My research is about expanding the news

story by using tools from other disciplines.

Traditional media is today challenged and I

hope the project can contribute to the dis-

cussion about reliability, criticism of sources,

and the figuration of news.

Jag undersöker gränslandet mellan teaterns

och operans vokala uttryck. På svenska tea-

terscener möter vi skådespelare som avhän-

dat sig många av röstens uttrycksmedel och

närmat sig ett vardagligt uttryck. På ope-

rascenen skyms den talade textens innehåll

ofta av det vokala uttrycket.



Jag kommer redogöra för min undersökning

av hur skådespelaren kan närma sig musika-

liteten och ett expanderat vokalt uttryck före

att gestalta textens innehåll. Och hur opera-

sångaren kan söka sig mot en mer betydel-

sediger gestaltning av texten med bibehållen

vokal kraft.

I’m exploring the meeting point of the vocal

expression in opera and theatre. In Swedish

theatre actors tend to minimalize their vocal

expression, leaning towards an everyday

manner. On the opera stage the content of

the spoken word is often hidden behind the

vocal expression.



I will describe how I explore the possibility

for the actor to use musicality and an expan-

ded vocal expression to communicate text

content. Also, how the opera singer may se-

arch for content based expression of the text

while keeping the vocal power of the voice.


I projektet ”Våta platser” undersöker vi gråt

och den gråtande kroppen som konstnärligt

uttryck och praktik. Hur ser den ut? Hur låter

den? Hur blir den till? Hur uppfattas den av

betraktaren? Vi har arbetat bl.a. med härm-

ning/kopiering för att undersöka begrepp

som autenticitet, privat/personligt/profes-

sionellt och den särställning som gråt inför

publik innehar.



”Våta platser Arkiv” består av live-perfor-

mance, gråt-selfies, ljud och en ”mood

board” om den gråtande kroppen. Besö-

karna erbjuds ta del av materialet som en

utgångspunkt för ett samtal om gråt som

konstnärligt uttryck, ritual och fysiskt/emo-

tionellt tillstånd.

In the project ”Wet Places” we examine

crying and the crying body as artistic expres-

sion and practice. What does it look like?

How does it sound? How is it produced by

the performer and perceived? The copying

of other bodies is used as a tool, to discuss

concepts like authenticity, private/personal/

professional and the exceptional position of

crying with an audience.



”Wet Places Archive” consists of a space

displaying live performance, video-selfies,

a mood board and audiovisual material. The

visitors will be guided through the Archive

and we hope that the visit can become a

departure point for a discussion about the

crying both as artistic expression, ritual and

physical/emotional state.

Over the past few years, I have been expanding

my doctoral project – ”Studies on Fantastical

Anatomy” over a larger research which inclu-

des poetic, fantastical, speculative, imaginative

dimensions and unfolding it into a fantastical

anatomy as real as a piece of bone.

For the 50% seminar, I will present the re-

search in a format of an exhibition in which

the different materials of the studies will be

exposed.



The seminar will open with a short presen-

tation and an extract of the choreograp-

hy ”Anatomie”. After, there will be a visit

through the exhibition.

We will then discuss the project proposed

as doctoral research and Piet Devos, the

opponent for this seminar will give his re-

sponse followed by an open discussion.
