• Provide screenings, referrals, and education to bring consumers into the health care delivery system.

Evaluation• Qualitative evaluation: answers the question how well did we

do?• Quantitative evaluation: answers the question how much did

we do?

Evaluation• Formative evaluation: internal evaluation of the program• Summative evaluation: merit of the program after it has been

implemented

Measurement• A particular method used to evaluate a program based upon

the program objectives

Evaluation Techniques• Nonclinical: methods that do not include clinical data:

• Questionnaires• Interviews• Focus groups• Direct observations

• Clinical: methods used to measure clinic data such as screenings or exams that use dental indexes

Dental Indices• Standardized method used to describe the status of an

individual or group with respect to an oral condition
