1 DRAFT PROGRAM FOR PSF
The AU 9th Private Sector Forum is an event jointly organized by the AU in collaboration with NBF and hosted
by the South African Government through the Department of Science & Technology under the theme
“Accelerating Africa’s Industrialization through Digitization and Youth Techpreneurship”. The
proposed dates for this Forum are from 13thto 15th November 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The three day event will also have a dinner named African Leaders in Dialogue which will be attended by top
government and business officials to discuss transforming Africa through Digitization and Techpreneurship.
The overall program is designed to give the audience an overview of digitization, its transformative potential,
accelerating adoption of digital technologies through PPP, capacity building and techpreneurship.
The Objective of PSF is to be platform for vibrant discussions between telecoms, technology companies, local
actors of Africa’s industrialization and the public sector on forging Private-Public-Partnerships. It promotes
both global and intra-African collaborations in order to harness the benefits of digitization and
techpreneurship to accelerate Africa’s economic transformation and sustainable development in the digital
era.
The plenary session of PSF will give an overview of digital technologies and their potential to solve Africa’s and
humanity’s grand challenges. It will then highlight the importance of partnerships to harness the benefits of
digital technologies with case studies of successful PPP. And lastly it will cover Capacity building in S&T, skills
development and techpreneurship.
Parallel Sessions on day 2 will give specialized and more technical presentations of the use of digital
technologies in the sector of focus. Ideally, speakers will profile a technology provider, a local actor that adapts
the technology in the African context, a CSO and a local startup working in the selected sectors. We
recommend no more than 5 speakers who will each give a short introductory presentation prior to
participating on the panel discussion.
Day 3 will host Startup Pitch, awards, recognition of sponsors and stakeholders of the event and closing
remarks.
