Welcome to the Creative Careers Day, a Bradfield Senior College initiative as part of Vivid Ideas 2016.

The creative industries are evolving as a major force in the global economy and navigating careers in this industry can be complex. In the spirit of Vivid and as a senior school specialising in this area we wanted to help students understand how to survive as ‘new creatives’. Our students, Generation Z, inhabit a connected world and so as educators we must adapt to these changes. Reports are forecasting the workplace of the future (individuals will have 17 jobs in 5 industries). Students ask: What does this mean? How secure will our futures be?

We want students to speak directly with experts from the creative industry to discover where the jobs are, what skills are needed and valued and the steps they should take to forge a creative career. It makes a welcome change to the traditional careers expos with brochures and stands and not a lot of detail about what the industry is really like.

The Vivid Ideas Creative Careers Day has also been an immersive, interactive learning experience. Our students and staff have been actively involved in staging the event as part of our Industry Experience program. It’s created an explosion in creative ideas that are inspiring. We can see the culture of Bradfield has shifted from an inward to an

outward focus. Students are actively creating and making, starting businesses as part of our Bradfield Co-op and embracing the challenges these projects bring to learning. Something we believe Sir John Job Bradfield would be proud of as a visionary. Our tribute to him is a portrait painted by one of our HSC students, Vincent ‘Bunyip’, which now adorns our college building.

So, today – immerse yourself. Be creative, get involved in our workshops, seminars and experiences, and support our emerging creatives at their Art and Design market.

Our Human Library functions similarly to other libraries, except that in a human library, people—rather than books—are available for checkout. Every industry expert speaking in a seminar will be available immediately afterwards in the Music Wing Music Studios, for people to ask questions and gain advice on starting a career in the creative industries.
