Study what you loveThe UBC Bachelor + Master of Management Dual Degree (B+MM Dual Degree) gives you the best of both worlds: study what you love and discover how to turn your passion into a profession with valuable business skills taught by professors at the UBC Sauder School of Business’ Robert H. Lee Graduate School.

Whether you have a passion for the fine arts and dream of running a gallery, are studying kinesiology and aim to set up your own practice, or want to climb the corporate ladder at a company that reflects your interests, you’ll need to know the fundamentals of business. From marketing and HR to sales and operations, the B+MM Dual Degree will give you the knowledge and practical skills you need to get the career you want.

How it worksFor the first four years of this 4.5-year program, you work on your non-Commerce undergraduate degree while also taking business courses that count towards your Master of Management degree. After finishing your undergraduate degree, you focus on Master of Management courses for six months, graduating with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree from UBC Sauder’s Robert H. Lee Graduate School. See Page 6 for the program journey.

Learn from diverse classmatesYou’ll be in the unique position of studying with top students from across UBC. Imagine collaborating on a business plan project with a Math major who has stellar quantitative skills, getting inspired by the creative genius of a Fine Arts student, and learning from the analytical mind of a Psychology major. Understanding and experiencing how ideas are marketed, how organizations are managed, how businesses produce and deliver products and services, and how technology integrates with business and society will help you build a successful career in any sector.

Here’s a sample of some of the courses in the program:

Marketing FundamentalsMarketing is important to the success of business. Gain a thorough foundation in marketing principles to help you plan and execute a successful marketing strategy. You’ll learn how to understand and design marketing programs, analyze the competition and assess the profitability of products and services offerings.

Corporate FinanceGet an introduction into the world of corporate finance—how and why companies make investments and the factors that influence their decisions. You’ll learn about determining the value of an investment, measuring investment costs and benefits, and how investments are financed.

Operations and LogisticsHow do organizations efficiently deliver products or services to their customers? You’ll get a broad overview of the logistics field, including manufacturing processes, supply and distribution problems, application of management tools and the principles in solving common logistics challenges.

Fundamentals in EntrepreneurshipEver dreamed about starting your own business? Gain a solid understanding of what it takes to be an entrepreneur, how to spot and make the most of opportunities, and understand the process of starting a new venture.

Two-Party NegotiationsAnalytical skills are required to develop solutions, and negotiation skills are critical to create buy-in for these solutions to be implemented. Through simulations, you’ll discover which negotiation approaches work well and which don’t, giving you the opportunity to improve your own skills.

Gain Valuable Business SkillsThe B+MM Dual Degree gives you the business skills you need to gain a competitive edge in the job market. Practical opportunities to apply your business education include:

Consult with a local businessThrough the optional Community Business Project, you will have the opportunity to gain consulting experience while applying your new skills to solve a business problem for not-for-profit organizations and social enterprises. This project enables you to work as part of a team, consulting directly with a local organization to solve a real-life business challenge. Our students have worked on a wide range of projects such as:

• Business plans and feasibility studies• Fundraising and development initiatives• Recruitment and retention strategies

Here is a recently completed consulting project:

Introducing sustainably farmed Kenyan tea into international marketsJusTea, a not-for-profit organization that helps Kenyan farmers become sustainable tea producers. Students were tasked with identifying these new target markets, and eventually developed a sales database and established relationships with potential buyers and like-minded businesses.

CapstoneDuring the Master of Management portion of the B+MM Dual Degree, students will test their newly acquired skills and knowledge in an intensive business simulation at the end of the program. With the support of faculty and senior business leaders, students will work together in groups, using their business acumen and leadership skills to solve a significant business challenge under real-world time pressure.
