Practical Tool in Generating Ideas from a Large Number of People
Objectives of ProGED Cafe
To solicit from participants the different factors that FACILITATED
and HINDERED successful implementation of ProGED activities in their respective
locations based on the 5 success factors of Capacity WORKS
Instructions• Everyone is assigned a number. Refer to the label on
your chairs for the number.• The labels correspond to the 5 success factors of
Capacity WORKS: strategy, cooperation, steering, processes and learning and innovation
• Proceed to the numbered “Coffee Tables” to form a group.
• Each group has an anchor ProGED staff who will help select a host and observe the discussion
Instructions• Each group must select a host and the rest are
considered members• Each group is given 10 minutes to discuss and write
their answers to the questions at hand.• The group can freely discuss, write, doodle or share
their ideas.• After 10 minutes, the members will together move to
the next table. Host will stay.• After the Café, each host is given 7 minutes to
present the highlights of the discussion in her/his group to the plenary.
Roles of a Host
• Remains at the table• Briefs newcomers on the work already done• Presents summary of discussions of all
guests in her/his coffee table to the plenary
Roles of Members
• Participate actively by sharing (and writing) their experiences
• Transfer to the next coffee table after each round of discussion

Materials Needed: ProGED Cafe• Manila paper, to serve as table cloth, for 5 tables• Flowers/flower vase for 5 tables• Back to back standee on the table: print role of host
on one side and print role of members on the other side (we can use plastic standee of restaurants or folded carton/manila paper where printed material is pasted)
• Plenary chair will have a piece of colored paper to designate grouping
• 10 Permanent markers per table• Colored pens/crayons per table
