Profiling Of Our Target Audience

Page 2: Profiling of our target audience

AgeThe age group that we’d like to target is 15-25 year olds. This is the decided age group as our protagonist will be of a similar age but a bit younger, so we believe the audience are able to relate to them more. People within this age are more likely to go to the cinema and explore a wide range of films such as short films due to having a good social life and spare time therefore we believe our film would appeal to audiences of this age. We also feel the age group we have chosen can connect to the protagonist more also, as opposed to someone over 40 – whose characteristics and behaviour may differ to the protagonist in the production, and therefore won’t appeal to them. Also those over 40+ are more likely to be conservative and still practice their religion, therefore may find our film quite offensive.

SexIt could be suggested that due to our film having mostly girl characters that there will be predominantly a female audience as they can relate more to the actors. However, we think this is not the case in our film as the gender of the characters does not matter that much, but the narrative and twist within the film does, therefore the sex that we will target at will be both male and female who like watching psychological horror films. We also feel that psychological horrors aren’t targeted at a specific gender audience due to it appealing to both and this is another reason why our film isn’t for a gender specific audience.

Education

Depending on the type of education a person receives will depend on whether the topic is understandable or relatable. If people have not been educated about mental health they may find it difficult to identify the fact that our character has mental problems and has been traumatised by her past and this has turned her crazy. However on the whole we believe that our film wouldn’t discriminate against those who don’t have a specific education type as our film narrative could be understood by those who don’t even have an education.

ClassDue to our film being a low-budget short film we believe that it will only appeal to the middle and working class due these people being more likely to watch it as upper class people may be more likely to go to theatres etc. instead of watching low budget films on the internet. Whereas middle and lower class people have a variety of tastes in films therefore our film may appeal to them.

Tastes in Film GenresDue to our film being able to fit in more than one genre, it will appeal to a wide range of people. Our film is a psychological horror but could also be classed as a psychological thriller, horror or just thriller. All these genres have similar conventions but are different in terms of gore and narrative, however they only appeal to an audience who like to watch films for thrills, who like to be on edge when watching a movie and who like to be scared. Our film in particular will only appeal to those who like films with a twist which makes them think and leaves questions in their head, but overall our film will only appeal to those who watch films for thrills such as horror.
