This catalogue highlights the installations and live performances that best showcase D.A.S. Audio systems. From a hotel on the ski runs of Lapland to restaurants and clubs in Barcelona, including a wide variety of theatres in the USA, clubs in Singapore or a football stadium in Poland. We have brought sound to festivals held in Miami’s brutal heat and Argentina’s southern summer, music competitions in China and Spain, and legendary annual gatherings in New Orleans and Glastonbury. We have also had our systems installed for the Formula 1 in Valencia and for live performances for such renowned artists as Guns N’ Roses, Slash or Justin Bieber.

In each case, regardless of whether it was a permanent or temporary installation, we have worked alongside the sound professionals to guide them in choosing the most appropriate D.A.S. system for each space and need, offering both reliable and durable products. In the end, our goal is to make sure that every sound experience is the absolutely best that it can be.

Everything begins to make sense when great sound prevails. The reasoning behind the efforts in innovation, the investment in design, in virtual modelling and rapid prototyping become strikingly clear. Sense is made of the bold decisions and, above all, the pursuit of quality, despite today’s economic climate of “tight budgets”.

Because at D.A.S. Audio we know that when live music sounds good, when the equipment responds regardless of the adverse circumstances - hours of work, rain, or intense heat - the magic happens. The magic of an artist devoted to a receptive audience, the magic of several hundred or many thousands of fans, sharing emotions, together.

and signal processing equipment, the experience we’ve accumulated is directed at a process of continuous improvement. This is the path that has led to our

of the most prestigious venues in the world. And it is the path that has awarded us the opportunity to give voice to the best artists of all musical genres.

For a great sound experience

hall, church, theatre, conference room, sports facility, restaurant or club all have different applications and consequently, different needs which have to be assessed when it comes to designing a sound reinforcement system.

Using the most advanced acoustic modelling software and “auralizations” – the technique of creation and reproduction of sound on the basis of computer data – it’s now possible to know how a venue will sound, even before it is built. Studying sound pressure maps and coverage uniformity at a given frequency or over an entire band allows us to optimise systems, giving D.A.S. a marked competitive advantage.

Sound Installation Projects

D.A.S. Audio boasts a Sound Projects Department headed by audio and applications engineer Eva Argandoña. The department offers D.A.S. clients acoustic consultancy services, so that any installation project can be undertaken with the maximum degree of success. “When an important investment is going to be carried out on equipment”, says Argandoña, “an acoustic study serves several key purposes. The main purpose is to propose the most appropriate system according to the venue’s physical make-up and its

as required, substantiating the investment and containing the budget to the absolutely necessary. At the same time, the systems integrator is provided with the optimal make-up of the system and the positioning of the loudspeakers, providing the best possible acoustic characteristics when the project recommendations are followed.”

Argandoña works with advanced modelling tools developed by the German company SDA (Software Design Ahnert).

EASE Focus, is available for download on the D.A.S. website (www.dasaudio.com) and designed to make system design work easier, especially in live performance venues. Intuitive to use, it can be used to carry out line array predictions and adjustments, detailing the correct splay angles of the systems and showing

EASE 4.3., an advanced application that performs acoustic predictions

of providing acoustic simulations with line arrays and

SPL, reverberated SPL, and parameters such as RaSTI or ALCons which are fundamental in evaluating speech intelligibility. EASE 4.3 can also generate “auralizations” to virtually listen to the room, even before it is built.

So what is left, is to work with the program to determine and specify the equipment that is will perform best for the proposed application in the acoustic environment of the space.”

The result of the analysis is an extensive report that objectively substantiates the sound design proposal. It

Each project is different“With each project we face different challenges,” says Eva Argandoña, “because there are so many criteria to take into account: the dimension and shape of the room, as well as its acoustic environment, because a typical 19th century

although in sports arenas it is not easy. The problem is that

usually we have to cover large distances and, therefore, we have solve the presence of very long reverberation

to achieve quality sound”. Despite the latter, Argandoña always manages a solution for each project.

In places that bring together a lot of people, like stadiums,

using a spectacular public-address system, it is usual to incorporate an evacuation address system. These are the so-called EVAC projects, installing loudspeakers in all

boxes, to provide emergency messaging. In this case, word intelligibility is more than just comfort: it’s a safety issue.

From the plan to realityThe Sound Projects department, which has been up and running for several years, has come across both simple and complex projects, venues in which the acoustic have been resolved, others that have presented poor sound quality. With hours of engineering, this department always provides

Paradise Theater / New York (USA)

of a Bronx Paradise

The historical Paradise Theatre opened in 1929;it has since opened its doors for uses as varied as movies, theatre, sports and music...lots of music.

The Paradise Theatre has held all sorts of shows since it was The Mysterious Dr. Fu

Manchu in 1929. Today, the theatre’s most loyal public mainly comes to enjoy R&B music, and the reopening of this venue was headlined by one of the greatest R&B artists: Charlie Wilson.

The Paradise is characterized by its luxurious Venetian-style décor and a spectacular marble stairway. Following a complete renovation of the venue – which in turn has reactivated the economy of the surrounding neighbourhood – these elements have once again become the theatre’s main features.

Among the most recent changes is the inclusion of a powerful sound system chosen by the engineer Fernando García, from AVS Production Group, who was searching for uniform coverage and

complete success, according to García, because the “systems are very consistent and enough to cover the entire hall without reaching extreme limits”. García is pleased with all the compliments that he has received, especially with the congratulations of the O’Jays sound engineer, who was impressed with the clarity and coverage of the system.

He continues, “Other metal bumpers are too big and heavy and cannot be hung without damaging the surrounding walls or ceiling. This system is a huge improvement”.

Perfect Sound in

stadium is a challenge as exciting as it is complex,Gdynia Municipal Football stadium recently received a large, networked audio-driven sound reinforcement system. Piotr

, at the helm of the Arka Gydinia installation, knew that his project could provide a fundamental improvement to the stadium: in general good sound quality and particularly perfect speech intelligibility, contribute towards increasing the spectacular nature of football events. Combined with the background music, the commentators, and the general energy that the games generate, football becomes more than just a game.

With room for more than 15,000 seated spectators, each zone of the stadium required a different solution. It was crucial that spectators in the stand could correctly understand spoken message and that the sound was distributed evenly to obtain solid coverage with the minimum number of cabinets. However, in the

throw application without compromising on quality. Finally, zones like stadium entrances or corridors, where the top priority was good acoustic signalling for announcements, had to be taken into account.

Exquisite evenings in Barcelona

In the 1970’s this space housed the famous Cine Astoria, from which the nightspot takes its name. The renovated Club Astoria has made the most of the cinema’s original space, including amphitheatre and stage, to offer clients two restaurants and a club.

One of the restaurants - a bit more exclusive than the other - is situated in the amphitheatre, and the other, more accessible space is located in the old cinema’s bar. The space also boasts a club area, which opens its doors after dinner, offering a variety of live shows and performances. This successful combination is boosted by the venue’s unbeatable location in Barcelona´s upscale Eixample neighbourhood.

The company in charge of the study and installation of light and sound was Fokum, a company based in Vila-Sana (Lérida) and led by Josep María Aldonrá, who chose the ultra compact Aero 8A line arrays for this project.

The Hotel Levitunturi has 220 rooms, an impressive selection of restaurants, cafés and clubs and a number of other reasons to be considered the place to stay in this typical holiday destination. Amongst its many attractions the Kylpylähotelli Levitunturi resort is especially proud to offer two ways of traditional Finnish fun and relaxation: a large spa with hot and cold water pools, saunas and whirlpools and an eight-lane bowling alley.

Electro Waves Oy, a company specialised in the combination of sound, lighting and hydraulic technology, was contracted to design and install the sound system for each of the hotels’ different areas. Its sales director, Jyti Ålander, reviews the results, “A comfortable and relaxing atmosphere was created in the spa. Dominated by a clever combination of music and nature sounds, including lightning and thunder, loudspeakers were hung to harmonise with the surroundings. Unlike the spa, action and fun are the most important elements in the bowling alley; loud music with harder beats was incorporated.”

The installation is completed with public address systems for announcements that will help possible evacuations in case of emergency.

Club dbl O / Singapore

Live performances and edgy decor, the city’s most dbl 0, one of Singapore´s top clubs, reopened its doors to bring a new element to the city’s thriving nightlife: a constantly changing platform from which the best local artists are launched. Fully renovated, the venue is now a multi-purpose space where one can enjoy the best DJ’s, live shows or artistic exhibitions, all in one place. This spirit of renovation and transformation includes changing the decoration every four to six months, and club managers invited eleven local urban artists to share in this new phase by creatively decorating several interior walls.

D.A.S. Audio Asia, which had already worked with the Emerald Hill Group in the installation of the sound system of its Pool Room bar, studied the venue down to the tiniest detail to create a customised atmosphere for the particular requirements of dbl 0. Not only has top notch quality sound been reached, but D.A.S. Audio Asia also managed to prevent the sound from disturbing users of the surrounding establishments, which include a hotel.

To reach an ideal solution, the D.A.S. engineering team analysed the space and carried out different simulations with EASE 4.2. The following decision was made: install different rigging points around the venue so that the club’s technicians could choose which points should be used to connect the newly purchased line array systems, according to the requirements of each performance. “Thus, what might normally be a complicated rearrangement of equipment, is a breeze with the D.A.S. systems.”

A professor of the Herriot-Watt University has revealed in a study published by the British Journal of Psychology that wine is appreciated differently depending on the music that is played while tasting it. In his experiment, the same Cabernet Sauvignon was strong for those who had it while listening to Carmina Burana of Carl Orff, gentle for those who had listened to Michael Brook, elegant for those who accompanied the wine with The Nutcracker of Tchaikovsky or refreshing for those who drank it with I just can’t get enough, of Nouvelle Vague.

The Touring Company Store / New York (USA)

Independent designers play the leading role in this spectacular shop in Manhattan’s Soho; the store is also

an advocate of different forms of contemporary art.

Decoration and music – must-haves in any establishment – fuse perfectly in this shop located in the legendary Soho neighbourhood south of Houston Street. The Touring Company Store creatively imitated the appearance of a concert loudspeaker setup for their décor.

The idea is as exciting as it is inspiring: as the establishment offers the latest products created by independent designers and promotes a variety of artists on the brink of their careers, the backstage becomes the best metaphor. Shop visitors experience the boiling atmosphere just as if they were behind the scenes at a concert, right before an artist is about to go onstage.

Luis Lojo, independent sound engineer and systems designer living in New York, was in charge of the sound installation. He opted to install Variant systems, designed for permanent installations, for both their aesthetic as well as their performance. Furthermore, he found two additional advantages: these systems are self-powered

Furthermore, the system had to be able to be used for both background music and live performances. These requirements made Variant equipment the logical choice: the systems have the appearance Lujo was looking for, a fantastic design, and were just the right size for the store. sound at the European GPIn the – the last race in the Formula 1 season - the fastest cars in the world tear around a one-of-a-kind circuit that winds through the streets of Valencia. This three-day event requires a top-of-the-line sound system to add components of music and commentary to the already festive atmosphere, and local company -

opted for an impressive deployment of D.A.S. products to meet the demands of the event.

More than 150,000 F1 fans gathered in Valencia to watch

and the exciting race itself, which brought in 85,000 spectators on its own. The unique race on the city´s seafront was made even more enjoyable by the sunny weather that accompanied visitors over the course of the three-day event.

Vicent Olucha from Sagarmanta Producciones – with a team of 30 professionals – headed the installation of the circuit’s sound system. The group was faced with a true technical challenge: they had to cover a site with a total

length of 5,000 metres that divided the spectators into 14 stands in 14 different locations. These stands were

were completely straight and others were on curves; some had 20 rows of seats while the highest stands had more than 40 rows; the main grandstands were covered but

the demanding safety regulations of racing competitions restricted the installation of sound systems above the protection wall that surrounds the track.

115 systems for 14 standsIn total 115 Aero 12A systems were installed around the entire circuit, with the majority distributed in front of the 14 stands at an average distance of between eight and ten metres.

To offer quality sound to all race attendants (including the spectators seated in the upper rows) while at the same time complying with legal requirement of not raising the equipment above the protection wall, the sound systems were placed on truss-type podium structures that allowed the operators to use different inclination angles. The result was exactly what Olucha was looking for, and the desired sound uniformity was achieved.

Each stand was also equipped with a single-phase 16A/20A connection, from which the electricity supply was distributed to all the systems in each zone.

Formula 1 European GP / Valencia (Spain)

A control post was set up next to the starting boxes to send and receive the control signals for the 16 different sound systems distributed around the entire circuit: 14 systems corresponding to the spectator stands, one more for the boxes and another for the award’s stage. The 16 systems were treated independently.

To connect each one of these points to the central control,

different bundles could be sent via CobraNet© so that they

The end result was consistent sound quality, capable of minimising the effects of delay between adjacent stands and the possible synchronisation problems between the areas that are far apart.

Slash International Tour / Surabaya and Jakarta (Indonesia)

riumphin IndonesiaThe ex-member of , considered one of the best guitar players in the world, dazzled his audience in Surabaya and Jakarta, which had record attendance of fans who wanted to listen to a live show of Slash’s unique rock.

Don Sistem Suara was the local company at the helm of the sound reinforcement for these two eagerly awaited events. The equipment, managed directly by Donny Hardono, DSS owner and renowned local sound system installer, knew that he was facing a challenge. Expectations were high and the hard rock fans were eagerly awaiting the presence of their idol, and Saul Hudson´s (which is Slash’s real name) sound engineer is one of the most renowned engineers on the international scene: Ken “Pooch” van Druten.

From the artistic point of view, the experiences of Surabaya and Jakarta were very intense, just as the audience had expected and Asian critics unanimously appraised. From the technical point of view, everything went off without a hitch with Hardono proving his expertise. Hardono really appreciated that the rigging system of the Aero 38 was so agile. “It enables us to put the equipment in operation rapidly and safely. This optimises our start-up time and gives our operators more time to rest”.

A Legend in ControlKen “Pooch” van Druten, head sound technician for Slash’s tour, is a legend on the

world with a classical education, moving on to the electric guitar at the age of 15. But he has always felt most comfortable in front of the sound board, where he has cooperated with the best singers in the world, winning several awards (including different Grammy nominations). For this reason we feel that his satisfaction with the equipment has special value. “These systems are very good. They only need minimum equalisation, just like it should be. I tried it with Pink Floyd´s Time and it sounded great. The tuning of these systems gave me many options to manage far and near

with different controls. That is all I needed”.

Make no mistake: there was authenticity, good sound, an incredible vibe and, of course, a mud pit at every show. was on hand for all three festivals, at each one delivering outstanding results.

Those familiar with these festivals - as a musician, technician or spectator – know that you’ll get a dose of all kinds of weather: periods of sunshine and, more than likely, some downpours. With this in mind, technicians from APR Audio, in charge of the sound for the majority of these

For festival-goers, summer means music under the open sky, and a whole lot of it. But Glastonbury is also about dance, theatre, circus and cabaret in one unique festival that, in an area spread out over 3.7 km2, attempts to unite all the performing arts selling 135,000 tickets this year! At this event, D.A.S. systems provided the sound for the John Peel Stage and also effectively supported the alternative rock group Glasvegas, the unique style of Miles Kane, Example’s hip hop and the experimental sound of Warpaint.

London Feis:The Best of London…and the WorldLondon’s Finsbury Park was home to this revamped festival that, although it has a new name, continues to celebrate under the emblem of the medieval harp, maintaining its traditional spirit: bringing together the best Irish musicians and international performers which this year, had Bob Dylan as headliner. Some of the world-renowned musicians included Thin Lizzy, Christy Moore, Clannad and The Cranberries, all backed up by powerful D.A.S. stage systems.

The newest of the British festivals has already garnered an excellent reputation in just four years due to good organization and an exciting line-up of performers in which, beyond simply style, a premium is placed on quality. D.A.S. sound equipment was utilized in the majority of the main stage acts, optimizing musical styles ranging from that of Tinie Tempah and Eliza Doolittle to Prince.

Wang Tiequnof the company responsible for installing the sound system, remarked on the success of the event, a success measured not just by turnout, but for having met particularly ambitious expectations: “The objective of the festival,” he commented, “isn’t just attracting music fans, but also, and most importantly, it’s about promoting rock, pop, jazz and other music genres and helping emerging bands get noticed.”

This 10-day festival, named for the mythical lake (West Lake or Xi Hu) located in the city center, has evolved into a musical and cultural crossroads. Eastern traditions opened up to Western culture, national artists brushed shoulders with international ones, and established names shared the bill with those on the verge of stardom.

Battle Hymns 2011 Tour powered by Aero Series 2

MANOWAR is identified in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the loudest band in the world. This distinction is significant, as it points directly to the need for power, clarity, and versatility- characteristics of the Aero Series 2 systems that delivered the band’s sonic signature during MANOWAR’s Battle Hymns 2011 tour.

The Battle Hymns 2011 tour commenced March 5th in Worcester, MA, U.S.A. and included performances in Greece, Switzerland, England, Sweden, Portugal, and The Netherlands before concluding in Madrid, Spain. MANOWAR toured with D.A.S. Audio’s flagship Aero Series 2 loudspeaker systems that performed a key role in the band’s larger-than-life sound.

The MANOWAR loudspeaker setup included 24 Aero 50 3-way line array elements—flown 12 elements per side as the house mains. Six D.A.S. Audio Aero 12A powered, 2-way mid-high line arrays were employed for front-fill distributed evenly across the front of the stage. A positively massive amount of low end punch was delivered by 26 D.A.S. LX-218A powered, high performance subwoofers. On stage, Aero 50’s and the LX-218A’s—were deployed for the band’s sidefill monitor setup, ground stack setup so that the energy was very close to the band members.
