Profile Pictures - Do's and Don'ts

1 - don't be an egg

Get a picture. Now.

2 - get close

there isn't a lot of space in social media pictures - make sure we can actually see your face

3 - keep it simple

skip the props, the action or location shots - there simply isn't room

save your action pics for your site

4 - face the viewer

looking away isn't cool - connect with your audience

5 - neutral background

no clutter, no distraction - it should be about you

6 - lose the greens

Love nature? Good for you. But there's a reason photographers never use a green backdrop.

Green doesn't do great things for skin tones. And trees tend to stick out in odd places.

7 - no significant other

people want to know who you are, not who you're with

and please - no post-breakup crops. don't do it to yourself and don't do it to us.

8 - no holiday shots

that vacation picture in which you look so happy and relaxed? NO!

9 - no party pics

remember that great office party? NO!

10 - be yourself

yes. it's that simple. be you. be open. connect.
