a space where young people and adult allies can can study the work of past movements , deepen their understanding of current social programs, build coalitions and develop strategies for change. we support new generations of critical and independent thinking of young people who use their unique experiences and power to create a just world.

CFS Origins

Initiated during the civil rights movement

Help african americans social and political equality in the us

in mississippi the costs for educating a white student was $81.66 vs $21.77 for a black student

ran and taught by volunteer college students working towards empowerment

CFS Today

Founded in 2007 by concerned individuals within the minority community

Develop and support for newer generations to encourage critical thinking amongst the youth

Focuses on youth leadership, movement building and organizing and education

As new director

taking cfs back to its roots by employing similar tactics that the original freedom schools used in the 1960’s

focus on youth led movements - rallies, demonstrations and non-violent protests

fundraising, researching, brainstorming, organizing, planning and execution will be conducted with a student and staff collaborative effort with more emphasis on the student -- freedom fellow

the goal

to bring up and address 5 major issues affecting our youths in the minority and under-served communities

come up with possible solutions and execute a plan each semester or quarter including the summer program

incorporate media outlets, letters to editors, press releases to garner attention for the demonstrations
