Thomassen Compression Systems (TCS) has an esta-
blished reputation for providing quality, tailor-made
compression solutions to the oil, gas, chemical and
refining industries.
Our detailed knowledge of field processes and
compressor-related systems enables us to design,
manufacture, install, repair and revamp all types of
reciprocating and other compression systems. As our
mission is to provide our customers with a compre-
hensive compression solution, we also offer a range of
maintenance and monitoring systems, which can be
tailored to your specific needs.

Working to precise specifications, we design and
manufacture made-to-measure compression systems
that offer outstanding reliability, excellent performance
and low maintenance costs.
In addition to designing all components for maximum
strength and durability, we have developed several
highly innovative solutions, including our Free Floating
Piston™, which reduces rider ring wear to an absolute
minimum by allowing the piston to float freely on
process gas.
For customers requiring adjustable compressor capa-
city (loss-free), we have developed a Hydraulically
Operated Variable Clearance Pocket (HOVCP), which
improves the efficiency and accuracy of a compressor,
thus reducing operating costs.
Our service organisation consists of a team of highly
skilled specialists, who install, maintain, repair, re-rate
and rebuild all types of compressors, round-the-clock
and throughout the world. Their objective is to improve
the reliability of your compression equipment by closely
co-operating with your in-house engineers.

As we have our own manufacturing facilities, we are
able to put Thomassen quality at the heart of your
installation. We have a strong design philosophy and
engage in fundamental research and testing. All
components we develop and design are subjected to
rigorous static and dynamic tests on our in-house,
heavy-duty compressor.
Using advanced software routines to predict overall
plant performance, we design main and auxiliary
equipment for optimum ‘total package’ efficiency. To
minimise downtime, we have additionally developed a
highly reliable condition monitoring system.
Our emphasis on Design & Engineering has resulted in
major improvements in uptime and reliability. The upti-
me target for our reciprocating compressors is cur-
rently three years. And, as a result of tests run under
real process conditions on our own test compressor
and at several production sites, we anticipate even
higher standards in the near future.

Whether it is a matter of reducing energy consumption
or changing operating parameters, re-rating existing
compression equipment often results in considerable
efficiency gains. Thomassen’s specialists are true
all-rounders with considerable experience in the
on-site servicing of all types of reciprocating and
rotating equipment.
S e r v i c i n g , r e - r a t i n g a n d r e b u i l d i n g
As we have manufactured and serviced compression
systems for over a century, we are able to provide
everything you may need during the technical life of
your reciprocating and rotating equipment, even if you
use non-Thomassen designs.
Although most of the centrifugal compressors built
decades ago are still up and running, their configura-
tion often dates back to the time when they were built.
In the meantime, knowledge of thermodynamics,
aerodynamics, and rotor dynamics has improved so
much that re-rating existing equipment is now extre-
mely cost-effective. We have the experience, know-
how and technology needed to design rotors and
diaphragms that meet today’s efficiency requirements.
When it comes to re-rating centrifugal compressors,
we are your ideal partner.

Although modern reciprocating compressors
use increasingly durable components, a well-tuned
maintenance programme will help you get the most
out of your compression system.

Compression Systems Monitoring gives you
the information you need to make cost-effective
maintenance decisions. Our monitoring and
performance tests can be conducted on virtually any
make of compressor.

Our engineers regularly advice customers on adap-
tations to maximise the efficiency of their system(s).
A combination of our technical expertise and the
very latest tools enables us to examine not only a
compressor’s performance, but also the process
around it. We use this information to advise customers
about efficiency improvements to their compression
installations.
