Jason Lorimer
First and foremost, let me say
that it is an honor to serve as
the Professional Speakers
BCS President. I have a great
group of Officers working with
me and an excellent Team
Coach, Tony Geishauser. We
have made some exciting
changes and look forward to
becoming a Distinguished
Club during the new fiscal
year.
Our new club banner is a
welcome addition and really
gives our group the profes-
sional image that you all de-
serve. Thanks to Tony for his
warm contribution and lead-
ership.
Andrea Kishne has worked
tirelessly as our Vice
President and her efforts
should also not go unrecog-
nized. Andrea, thank you for
all that you do for our team.
I am confident that we will
continue to grow as
individuals and as a club this
year. We have seen many
new faces lately and that is
sensational. Membership has
been a concern this past year
and it is good to see it take a
turn in the right direction.
Abdullah, I think you have
been instrumental in helping
us accomplish this. Excellent
work.
Message from the Area Governor As we get ready to begin the
2nd quarter of 2015, I want to
encourage you to utilize all the
tools you have available as a
member of the Professional
Speakers BCS Toastmasters
Club.
As Governor for Area L-40, my
priority is to provide support to
your club, the officers and you
as a member. With that in
mind, I would like to invite you
to continue striving for
personal growth in developing
your communication and
leadership skills, also to re-
mind you of what you can ex-
pect to obtain out of your
membership and active club
participation.
As a guide and reminder to all
of us in our efforts to create a
better Toastmasters Club
experience for every member
and our guests, I’ve taken the
liberty of underlining the key
words in the Toastmaster’s
Promise that have proven ef-
fective for all successful clubs.
I look forward to visiting with
you during my next visit to the
P r o f e ss i o n a l S p e a k e r s
BCS Club.
A Toastmaster’s Promise As a member of Toastmasters
International and my club, I
promise:
To attend club meetings
regularly
To prepare for all my
speech and leadership
projects to the best of my
ability, basing them on
projects in the Competent
Communication,
Advance Communication
or Competent Leadership
manuals.
To prepare for and fulfill
meeting assignments.
To provide fellow
members with helpful,
constructive evaluations.
To help the club maintain
the positive, friendly
environment necessary
for all members to learn
and grow.
To treat my fellow club
members and out guests
with respect and courtesy.
Al Flores, ACB, CL.
To bring guests to club
meetings so they can see
the benefits of the
T o a s t m a s t e r s c l u b
membership.
To adhere to the guide-
lines and rules for all
Toastmasters
educational and
recognition programs.
To maintain honest and
highly ethical standards
during the conduct of all
Toastmasters activities.
He later worked for Texas
Instruments as the Media
Relations and Advertising
Manager for the company’s
large defense systems group.
“What I like the most about
Toastmasters,” Tony says, “ is
to see the growing confidence
people get as they start giving
speeches out of their initial
manual of ten speeches.” He
adds, “Toastmasters is a won-
derful organization in which
everyone wants everyone else
to do well. There is a great
support system to help every-
one grow as speakers, lead-
ers and as people . ”
Concerning Toastmaster
courtesies and customs, he
says, “Following the Toast-
masters rules makes our
group look as professional as
they can be. A Toastmaster
who learns properly can go
anywhere in the world and be
confident that he or she will
fit in.”
Concerning leadership, Tony
says, “Someone once said
‘when you become a leader,
it’s no longer about you. It’s
about the team”. That’s what
all Toastmaster leaders learn.
To be a pro act like a pro.
Toastmasters follow rules of
order in their meetings to look
and act professional.
The leader is the person in
the front and center of the
meeting room who is address-
ing his/her fellow Toastmas-
ters. He/she will call up the
next speaker who then turns
into the leader until he/she is
relieved by the next speaker.
The leader never leaves his or
her post to transfer leader-
ship to the next speaker. The
next speaker walks to the
center front, shakes hands
with the leader and takes his/
her place.
There is almost always
applauding of encouragement
whenever the next leader/
speaker is called to take over
the meeting. Whenever the
new leader takes charge, he
or she acknowledges the
person who called him/her to
the leadership by saying,
“Mr./Madam Toastmaster.”
Then others in the audience
are also recognized, by saying
“My fellow Toastmasters and
welcome guests.”
