The real hazards to our health come with particles that are smaller than 0.1 micron (one ten thousandth of a millimeter), the kind LifeAir goes after. These ultra fine particles make up more than 90% of the bad things we draw into our lungs. Ninety-plus percent.

Now, if you want to catch these little bandits with a filter, it has to be extremely

fine. However, pushing air through a fine filter not only creates a lot of noise and consumes considerable energy, but the filter itself also quickly clogs up. A less fine filter might reduce these problems, but then the efficiency of the filter would be reduced as well.

So, how do we do it? Well, picture a magnet, not a vacuum cleaner (conventional air purifiers). Instead of sucking air through a filter, we simply make the air particles in a room – virus, mold, allergens, and plain old dirt – “magnetic” by giving them a tiny negative charge. It’s called ionization and that is what attracts the particles to our positively charged particle collector.
