PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

It is known that learning process for teachers is never done, even though we are

the teachers in the classroom, we are always learning from our students and colleagues

as years go by.

When reading the five authors assigned, I could realise that our world as

teachers is not only the classroom with forty five students in front, but is beyond that

common expectation. Apparently, it seems that for many English teachers nowadays the

only thing that matters for them is to attend to classes and speak in front of a class, but

through this assignment I could expand my vision towards a more professional view of

our future labour as in-service teachers of English. Also, I notice what to be a teacher of

English really mean in terms of the important responsibility and commitment that we

must have with our students as formers of people.

On the other hand, during the elaboration of the ‘professional development’

assignment I developed my critical thinking with some authors when evaluating their

theories and concepts they developed in the papers, which is a good way to help us to be

critic when reading and assessing new strategies, approaches or techniques to apply in

our class, selecting the one that best fits to get good results with our students.
