There are growing requests from teachers on how to effectively engage students who are reluctant to learn especially in the vital area

the Early and Middle Years focusing on Literacy.

Cracking the Alphabetic Code
For many students with learning difficulties, understanding the connection between letters &
the sounds of language is problematic. Their writing, spelling & reading often illustrate the
challenges they face in hearing & distinguishing individual phonemes & mapping these onto graphemes. Current research advocates a
systematic synthetic phonics approach to assist such learners, & phonics instruction is now
included in the Australian National Curriculum. This pd shows how best to teach this & reduce the
likelihood of literacy failure for students.

Road to the Alphabetic Code
With Phonemic awareness incorporated into the National English Curriculum, and the heavy body of research that identifies phonological and phonemic awareness as being the best
predictors of early reading success, teachers needs to understand the important role these play in the literacy skills of students at risk or with learning difficulties. This workshop will provide teachers with both knowledge and
practical experience to support such learners.
