Impaired Glucose Tolerance
• IGT is characterised by raised blood glucose after meals (post-prandial hyperglycaemia), with near-normal fasting blood glucose
• IGT usually progresses to type 2 diabetes
Results from the Hoorn Study:• 28 % of the subjects with IGT at baseline
have developed type 2 diabetes within 2 years of study duration
• This is equivalent to a progression rate of 13.8% per year
