Eddy Current Introduction
Products & capability overview
History of Criterion NDT, Inc.1990’s – Criterion NDT personnel worked for Zetec, Inc. The Component Testing (CT) market segment was established. Zetec instrumentation was developed specifically to address the needs of component manufacturers for crack and material structure testing.
2002 – Zetec was acquired by Roper Industries and restructuring ensued.
2004 – The CT eddy current business unit was transferred to Uson L.P., a Sister company of Zetec within the Roper Corporation. The CT eddy current business grew steadily until the economic downturn in late 2008.
2009 – Uson sold the CT business unit to the CT group of employees.
July 2009 – Criterion NDT officially opens for business in Auburn Washington.
❖ Criterion NDT becomes a “distributor” for the Zetec “Component Testing” instrumentation product line.
❖ Criterion NDT becomes a “manufacturer” of standard and custom cables, probes, coils and fixturing for eddy current component testing.
2013 – Criterion NDT Launches the all new CR-11 Eddy Current Instrument for component crack & thread test applications.

Primary magnetic field interacts with the eddy current secondary magnetic field.
What can it do?
1. Hardness/Case depth/Material Structure verification
2. Crack/Flaw detection
3. Alloy sorting
4. Thread testing
5. Feature verification
6. On or off line inspection
7. Dynamic or Static testing
Limitations of eddy current testing.
• Varied product geometry (excessive curves, angles, proximity to edges) can make testing difficult if at all possible.
• Surface condition excessive roughness.
• Need to be very close to the part under test.
• Excessive or varying product temperatures.
• Product must be “electrically conductive”.
• Product positioning repeatability
Test Instrumentation options
Criterion NDT CR-11
• Continuous or Discreet Product Testing
• Crack, Thread & Alloy Testing
• Single-frequency
• Single Coil/Probe
• In-Line testing capable

Crack and Flaw Detection Probes
• Replaceable coils allow the probes to be repaired, lowering the cost of ownership.
Standard probes
Custom probes
Crack & Flaw Detection Probe ArrayCustom, multi-coil, probes are designed to
inspect critical areas in a component
Flaw response in single channel or multi-channel display with scrolling
strip chart and test status.
Material Structure / Heat Treat Process Verification Probes/Coils
Standard Coils Custom Coils
Heat Treat Detection
• Many manufactured parts require heat treating
• Induction heating processes allow specific areas to be heated and quenched
• Failures include: Shallow case, misplaced case, delayed quench, air cooled, short heat cycle
Probes and instruments can be combined with
material handling stations to provide 100% in-line
testing at production line speeds, while rejecting all
parts with improper heat treatment properties.
Heat Treat Detection Systems
Channel levels, data point, test lights and test trends offer a variety
of ways to observe the test data results from the InSite instrument.
Target Markets
• Bearings – Ball, tapered roller, cone.
• Hubs and Spindles – Bearing assemblies.
• Gears
• Shafts
• Pistons – Diesel (& gasoline type).
• Bar, Tube & Wire - non-ferrous materials.
• Fasteners (bolts, clips, pins)
• All manufacturers of “quality and/or safety critical components”
