YOU SHOULD USE THIS TO STRUCTURE YOUR STAG 1 RESPONSE. ADD SLIDES WHERE NECESSARY AND ILLUSTRATIONS. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CLICK ON THE BOX UNDER THE QUESTION/INFO!

INITIAL IDEASAdd your mind map(s) and any documents about your initial ideas here (this could include sketches, sources of inspiration, etc

Inspirations:

-One thing which is Similar to my idea is in an episode of Family Guy they have something to do with April fools so I developed their idea and made it my own completely changing the middle and end.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-lfq6Sn6Mw -Family Guy Episode

-Another film which could be seen as in the same genre is Rush hour, this has many conventions in the film which I want to employ in my work so I did my micro analysis on this film

Page 3: Production management stage 1 2015

YOUR IDEAThe short film will start at 10pm on 31st of March. This will start by there been a news headline which they inform the public that there will be an unfortunate series of events which is going to cause the world to end in 2 hours. They set their watch on their wrist to count down two hours

The subject rushes to their room only to bring out a bucket list from their draw which will have around 10 things which they want to do before they die.

So they start crossing things off the list whilst having constant fast cuts to their stop watch on their wrist counting down the time they have on earth

They can even start doing things which are people would dare try to make it have a comical effect

It gets to the last 10 minutes and the person is completely tired out, they head back home for the last 10 minutes have a little heart to heart conversation with their family. They do the countdown together and cuddle as a family

The new team start to count down the last 5 second before the end of the world

“three…..Two…..one April fools!! It's the 1st of April and the whole things been staged by the news team

(There will be limited dialogue)

The reason I went with this idea is because it mixes two genres which I really enjoy personally as well as the idea has been taken from something which already exists, there’s a Family guy episode were they do a April fools prank. I have taken their idea and made it my own by changing it the start and what the result of the prank is in my synopsis.

The reason I wanted to make it into the thriller is because I had a few ideas from the film Rush Hour 2,, the karaoke in this film where it starts off with very long takes which give off the impression everything is calm in the atmosphere and then when the tension in the scene starts to build, the shot length decreases to build this effect.

I would have no main gender which I want to aim this project at, due to the genre and idea behind my short film. I don’t have anything in this which would make the idea specific gender.

I might have a section at the end which involves a gun so this could be seen as more visually interesting for a male audience.

This would tend to be aimed at people between the ages of 15-24 which in the classification means anyone in this age range are a teenager, this mean I can make the film look interesting and if it catches my eye it will most likely catch the eye of the audience I’m aiming this project at.

There’s nothing which is involved to make this project specific to any sexuality so this wouldn't have to be looked into or taken into account when producing this film.

The social grade that I would follow for my target audience would fall into C1, B and A, the reason I think this would be appropriate for the film I’m making is because the scene I want to film this could give off an upper class feel to the family meaning people in these social grade can relate to the subjects.

I feel this would be a short film which would have a psychographic of achievers, this is mainly because the subject goes out and does everything on their bucket list that they can before the count down stops which is something achievers might do if they were put into this situation

I feel that geodemographics wouldn’t apply here as this is an idea which can relate to almost anyone because they can all put themselves in their position. If I had to pick a curtain area I would say my idea would be more interesting for people in cities ad built up areas because I filming most of this in areas like this. It also means they can try relate to my story in their own area

PRIMARY TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCHYou MUST conduct a questionnaire/survey/interview or a combination of all three. Summarise this and add in any other primary research you feel is appropriate

Age:I have conducted a survey which allows me to see which age group I would have to aim the short film I’m producing at. What I can see here is 100% of people who have done the survey at between the ages of 16-19 which is the age group I was aiming this product out anyway. This also implies I have chosen a good genre and idea because the other film and TV program I looked at had the same target audience which mean it was quite easy to find out who mine would be.

I think the short film I’m producing can relate to some older people but would specifically go for people who are just at the end of their teenage years, this means I wouldn’t have to change my idea as you can see my research backs up my original target age.

Length:I personally think that the length of the short film should be around 4-5 minutes. After this I think people start to lose interest if it’s a short film. From the results I have got I can see that 80.95% thought that the short film should be the length of 4 minutes or more which shows me that people do prefer it when the film is that little bit longer. Due to this been the case I will make sure that my own project when I come round to producing it should be no less than 4 minutes in length, this should mean it keeps within what the audience would prefer to see in the short film

PRIMARY TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH

Genres:

I can see from the research I have made that the most enjoyed genre of all by everyone who took the survey was comedy. 66.67% of the people thought this was their favourite genre. Not only this but 42.86% of people like the genre Thriller. These are the two I’m specifying on seen as though my short film will be a hybrid of the two.

I can see from this that a nice majority of the audience I’m targeting this short film at enjoy the genres I have chosen for my project meaning this should be an success.

Comedy was rated the top genre out of everyone stated. Thriller and comedy came in the top 5 out of 19 choices which shows me that making a hybrid of both genre which means this could be something which is found exciting by my target audience

Most important qualities: I can see from the results I have collected here that in the genre of Comedy-Thriller, the main aspect which I can see most people look for in these style of films is good acting. The other thing which people like in this genre of film is a plot twist. In my idea the plot twist is already planned out to involve dark humour in the end of my short film. Due to cinematography been a big factor in the film I will try using new skills which makes my work fit together betterOther commentsWhat I found out is when people were answering the question about ‘Do they like Rush Hour 2 and why?’ A lot of people answered no because they had never seen the film before rather than they didn’t like the film itself. Due to this been the case I’m still going to stick with my idea of doing a Comedy-Thriller

SECONDARY TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCHResearch viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and psychographic info. Look up article, features or stories related to your potential audience

Viewing Figures:

Throughout the whole time Rush Hour two has been out there have been 241.35 million people who have watched this film! This shows us that this is a genre of film which quite a large audience enjoy. You can see from this that a large majority of the audience were male, this is most likely due to the genre of the film been an Action, Comedy and Crime film. All things which we could relate to the male genre more. This is because we stereotypically think that males would be more interested in watching a film with violence in it. Not only this but the main age range is 18-29

Rush Hour 2-

Sales Figures:In total this film managed to produce $256.585.882 just from theatrical performances, they also made a further $44.472.906 just from home market sales. This is a total over just over $300.000.000. From this you can see that it was a huge success!

This is why I want to use many of the cinematography styles they use in Rush Hour but in my own film, I want to make it kind of like the karaoke scene in this film where the first part starts off with long takes and then as the tension in the film builds, the shot pace shortens to build tension in the scene. If I do things such as this, this could make my short film more interesting for the people who enjoy films like Rush Hour.

SECONDARY TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCHResearch viewing figures, sales figures, demographic and psychographic info. Look up article, features or stories related to your potential audience Viewing Figures:

My main idea came from a family guy episode but I have changed it to work with what I wanted to shoot. From what I can see on the Barb website which shows the states of the film, this program appears 5 times out of 10 as one of the top program watched on ‘BBC Three’ This shows that there’s quite a large audience for people who watch shows like this. When the first series came out, this was aired between January 31st 1999- May 16th 1999. Between this time, this series has ad over 12.8 million views which shows us just the extent of how large the audience is for this program.

From what I have found out I can see that my audience will be mostly made up of males just due to the genre of my film been a thriller , comedy. Also I can see this film roughly has the same age range as me seen as though they have the most reviews and views from people who are between the ages of 18-29

Family Guy –

Summary of slide 6&7

Sales Figures:In the first week of the 7th series been brought out onto DVD, from having such a wide range of audience this program made $7.650.611 in just ne week. They managed to sell 273.675 units. Due to their not been very much information about the TV program and how much that makes I had to get information regarding DVD instead. http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2009/06/29/family-guy-volume-7-sells-274000-dvds-its-first-week/21636/

You can see from the states that this film was very successful, if I try to make my short film using the conventions of both the Family Guy episode I have got the idea from as well as some from the film Rush Hour , this should turn out to be a very successful short film

Page 8: Production management stage 1 2015

SECONDARY TARGET AUDIENCE RESEARCH

I would say the main psychographic for the film I’m producing would be emulators and achievers. The reason I say this is because the synopsis of the film is based on a person who wants to complete their bucket list before they die, I would personally say that this person who plays the subject in the film will come across as an achiever as they want to finish what they set out to do when they wrote the list. The reason I say emulators is because they are people who want to be like achievers. This means Emulators would consist of people who want to be like the subject in the film! The demographics for this film are most of the audience who have watched the film have rated the film with a median of 7 out of 10. Out of everyone 82.8% of them voted this film was better than 5 out of 10 meaning the majority of the audience enjoy this style of film.

Page 9: Production management stage 1 2015

IDENTIFY TARGET AUDIENCEThis would tend to be aimed at people between the ages of 15-24 which in the classification means anyone in this age range are a teenager, this mean I can make the film look interesting and if it catches my eye it will most likely catch the eye of the audience I’m aiming this project at. The other reason I would say the target audience is 15-24 is because when I’ve conducted, the result was 100% of people were in the age range 16-19 so adding a couple of years to either side should mean this will aim at most people who would be interested in a short film such as my short film idea.

There’s nothing which is involved to make this project specific to any sexuality so this wouldn't have to be looked into or taken into account when producing this film.

Down from this I would think that the majority of the audience I would be aiming this at would be males, this is just because of the stereotypical view you’d have on watching Comedy-Thrillers, from my research I found out that 57.14% of people who took the survey were males.

The social grade that I would follow for my target audience would fall into C1, B and A, the reason I think this would be appropriate for the film I’m making is because the scene I want to film this could give off an upper class feel to the family meaning people in these social grade can relate to the subjects.

I feel this would be a short film which would have a psychographic of achievers, this is mainly because the subject goes out and does everything on their bucket list that they can before the count down stops which is something achievers might do if they were put into this situation. You could also state that they could be emulators because these are people who want to be like emulators so might aspire to be like the subject in my short film.

Page 10: Production management stage 1 2015

AUDIENCE APPROPRIATE CONTENTThings which would be appropriate for a 15 rated film:• Strong violence

• Frequent strong language

• Portrayals of sexual activities

• Strong verbal references to sex

• Sexual nudity

• Discriminatory language or behaviour

• Drug taking

Age + Why?

The age rating I’ve chosen for my project would be 15, this is because it will consist of some strong language which can usually be seen as to strong for someone under this age, this also helps and ties in with the idea that my target audience is between 15-24 which means if I stick to the BBFC criteria for all of my work this should fall into place perfectly. Not only this but there will be a bit of violence at the very end of the short film which might be disturbing to people under the ages of 15 which is why I’ve made it this.

Psychographic

My film would associate more with people such as achievers seen as though in my head I would see my main character/ subject as an achiever so people who are like this would most likely enjoy this film as they can relate the main character. Another which could work for my short film is an emulator, the reason I have said this is because these are people who want to be like an achiever so they might watch films like this to aspire to be like the subject or even envy what they have in comparison to their own lives.

Page 11: Production management stage 1 2015

PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES RESEARCHResearch potential production techniques you might want to use or feel would be most appropriate. You should watch films/tv shows/music videos that are of a similar genre/style/audience as what you want to make. You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also ask potential target audience what they think. You will need to add extra slides! With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it completely
