Production editing One of the main things my group had to take into consideration when editing the shots for our opening scene was the limited length it had to be. In order to overcome this issue my group only used a selected amount of our best shots but we had to make sure despite this it still created enigma. Firstly the shots had to be cropped down to the right length and the lighting had to be made quite low-key and pretty much consistent throughout. Another thing used to evoke tension was an overlay of shots, this combined with the dull lighting all helps to create a suspense and make the target audience feel on edge. The beginning of our opening was filmed in a dark room but all of the shots taken outside of the dark room we applied the filter ‘cool tones’ to. The effect was found in the drop down box for filters and after looking through multiple different ones we felt it would be most effective to use ‘cool tones’.

One of the main things my group had to take into consideration when editing the shots for our opening scene was the limited length it had to be.

After we got the lighting to be consistent throughout, we had the challenge of looking for music that was in synch to the pictures on screen. After a good hour of searching for music on YouTube we finally found a free copyright sound track to use. The one we chose in the end was synchronous and I felt really grasped the concept of building tension. After the music was converted we had to add in another soundtrack at the end, which we found and thought evoked fear more than the other ending.

The next part of editing involved my group having to add in the credits, we decided to use the opening of ‘se7en’ an inspiration and to help us shape our own opening. Putting the credits into the right shots in the correct spaces was rather difficult. We used the effect ‘earthquake’ as it connotes the unexpected and could help to make the audience feel on edge. The less important credits were made smaller in size and all three of them fade out to prevent them from taking the attention off of what is going on in the shots.

In order for the target audience to catch subliminal messages my partner slowed down a selection of shots to make it seem as if it was from somebody’s perspective. Not only does this help to build tension anticipating what is going to happen, but it also signifies a sense of dizziness and gives the audience a brief insight on what frame of mind the person in the scene is in.

Overall I feel my group did a good job on both the filming and editing and the majority of our opening sequence is synchronous to each other but there is always room for improvement.
