Founded in November 1934, Hammer films is one of the oldest production companies in the world with nearly 300 titles to their name.

Hammer if synonymous with horror as they defined the genre in Britain with classics such as Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein.

Although, only 1/3 of Hammer films are of the horror genre as they have films of other genres like psychological thrillers, sci-fi and noir.

The company has had a lasting effect on popular culture. Films such as Frankenweenie, Jurassic Park and The Shawshank Redemption have paid tribute to the company.

Recent films from the company include The Woman in Black, Let Me In, and The Quiet Ones.

Founded in 1962 in Montreal and in 1998 in Vancouver. It is the largest and most successful film studio in North America.

Its first major box office success was American Psycho in 2000 which began a trend of producing and distributing films too controversial for American studios.

It focuses on foreign and independent and has distributed various commercially successful film series, including The Hunger Games and The Twilight Saga.

The production company usually teams with film studios to make films, such as Miramax.

One of the many successes distributed by Lionsgate is the Saw franchise.

associated with Warner Bros. Dark Castle Entertainment’s name pays tribute to William Castle, a horror filmmaker from the 1950s to 1960s.

The goal of this company was to remake Castle’s horror films. Although, after remaking two classics, they went on to making original films along with re-making non-Castle films.

The company being to make films in genres of than horror, starting with RocknRolla.

Initially, most of their films were mostly critically panned meaning critics expressed negative views for it. However, their recent films have been received better by critics. This includes films such as, Orphan, Unknown and Splice.

Their highest grossing film is Gothika, a supernatural horror film – grossing in total $141,591,324

Twisted pictures is an independent American production company that mainly creates films of the horror genre.

The company was formed after the box office success of Saw in 2004. This lead to a nine-picture distribution deal with Lionsgate. The company went on to produce six sequels in the franchise.

In 2007, the company united with RKO Pictures to remake four films from RKO. This included: Five Come Back, I Walked With A Zombie, The Body Snatcher and Bedlam.

In 2009, Twisted Pictures landed a deal with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre right-holders for multiple films in the franchise.

The most successful films for the company was Saw that allowed them to branch out and create video games.
