The company recently revamped its

Rovver® line of modular, steerableinspection crawlers. New featuresinclude a zooming pan/tilt camera headwith optional laser measurement, ahand-held pendant for fingertip controlof crawler functions, and a wide wheelset for improved traction in sediment.The features are available immediatelyon new systems and as retrofits for exist-ing systems. The zooming pan/tilt cam-era head combines 10X optical zoom and4X digital zoom. It can also project twolaser dots 1.575 in. apart onto targets inthe camera’s field of view, providing ameasurement reference to help sizedefects and debris.

Automated UltrasonicTesting Book Available

Olympus NDT has recently madeavailable the third book in its AdvancedNDT Series: Automated UltrasonicTesting for Pipeline Girth Welds by E. A.Ginzel. The 378-page book provides anoverview of the principles of automatedultrasonic testing (AUT) of girth welds,and explains the parameters that influ-ence inspection results. It discussessome of the more experimental aspectsof the process including sizing andacceptance criteria. The book alsodetails the use of AUT as a replacementfor weld radiography, and describes atechnique known as zone discrimina-tion. This technique permits rapid scan-ning, reliable defect detection, quicksizing, and nearly real-time data inter-pretation. Borescope FeaturesReplaceable Front Probe

The CastingScope flexible borescope

features a renewable front probe; theworn insertion probe can be easilyreplaced with a new one after thousandsof inspections. Designed to inspectmetal castings and other hard-to-accessareas, the instrument is available with

Microhardness TesterHandles Multiple Specimens

The Model CAMS-MSO multispeci-

men microhardness testing system canhandle up to six mounted samples with a1.25-in. diameter and up to 24 traversesequences in a single test routine. A newsample fixture, motorized positioningtables, focusing capabilities, and soft-ware were developed for this system.The six-piece fixture features a quick-release mounting system and providesself-leveling capability for the mounts.The positioning tables have a heavy-weight load capability and opticalencoders with 0.5 micron positioning res-olution. The optical encoders are notsubject to error from frictional wear onthe screws, a factor that is accentuated inheavier multisample systems. Since sys-tems making measurements over sixsamples require more focusing range,the MSO system offers automatic multi-range focusing that enables testing overthe entire fixture without any operatorinteraction.

System Inspects High Mast Lamp Poles
